Dash Security Light

Have a '99 Tahoe bought about a year ago. Just recently when driving the dash board "security" light comes on while driving. Stays on until vehicle is shut off and restarted. May not come on again until another shut down and start sequence. Normally it came on only during start up and then went off. No other issues, Tahoe runs and drives great. Is it a "sticking" relay or ??? Is it an issue I need be concerned with as in take it to the dealer? Bear in mind, I am "old school" and not very up on the newer computer/electronics in todays vehicles.

I drove a 2000 Sierra for my last two years of highschool, and im pretty sure it comes on when the doors are open, i would check all the pins for your doors and such and see if theres a sticky one. It also comes on when the alarm goes off, but im pretty sure you would notice that. Other than that im not sure though, good luck...

Hope you can find the problem I am trying to track mine down allso.Mine started out like your then I got in to return home and no start,I waited about 10 min and it started and didn't have a problem for a few weeks then thelight did come on a few times and then it did the no start bit again wait 10 min and then it starts. This is a problem that you have to use a TECH 2 tool to diagnose (dealer) or a wealthy friend.Problem is it still wont pin point the problem but will narrow it down to a few parts to throw at it.I have talked to a few gm techs and they said to change the switch (between key tumbler & BCM) BUT you need the Tech tool to redo the computer code.

I figured it was probably one of those things that is a "take it to the dealer" type situation. I hate that. Might as well bring the title along with me. I did have an intermittant start situation I posted about but after changing the rotor and cap that seems to have fixed that. It was suggested changing them by a couple board members during some very wet, humid weather. Have not had a problem with that since.

Security light still comes on occasion. ????

Mine does it on the 2001 Silverado 5.3 L so there is a coil to every plug, no cap.I have searched for the switch on line and found it for $94. just need to get the 94. bucks now.GOOD LUCK and keep us posted

An up-date on the dash "security" light and no start condition. Took the Tahoe to a mech. I've used for several years. Scanner showed an in-correct password to the "theft deterrant". Changed the theft deterrant module, re-programmed and also removed an after market alarm system with remote door locks. So far the security light situation and the no-start condition have not re-turned. Keeping my fingers crossed on this.

COOOL Hope it solves your problem,Did your mechanic use the tech tool or ??This is the first I heard of a theft deterent module.

Not sure what you are referring to as the "tech tool", far as I know it was a "scanner" ? Have to plead some ignorance here concerning these "new fangled machines". LOL So far, still working good, fingers crossed, etc. Didn't know what a theft deterrant module was either, about the size of two cigarette packs with a electrical plug in port and about $160 from the GM parts house. Damn, what are vehicles gonna' be like twenty years from now?

Damn it, the gremlins showed up again. Wife called me at work yesterday and infomed me the Tahoe would not start again. Waited about 20 minutes and tried again, fired right up. Taking it in to the local Chevy house Thursday morning. Little woman likes her Tahoe but likes it a whole lot better when it starts. Will keep posting about the problem, hope my grief can help some one down the line if they have the same problem.

Whats the story on your Tahoe

Story is still unfolding. Took it to the Chevy house Friday, they had it all day, said they found a "chafed" wire in the steering column. Repaired it and ran a scan, "everything read good". Took it on a day trip to visit my youngest son in Manhattan, Ks at Ks. State University and got about 20 miles out of town when the "security" light came on. Stayed on for the 160 mile trip. Back to the shop this morning, had it all day, idling, light never came on. Wife brought it home after work and plan is tomorrow after I get home from work is to take it out of town for a spin and see if the light comes on again. If it does I'm headed straight to the Chevy house. This is getting old, real quick.

Re: Dash Security Light

kaycee, Sorry I have not been keeping up with this but the very afternoon I made my last reply our house was broken into and it has been a real nightmare. Stolen items included our home computer tower, digital camera, spare keys for the '99 Tahoe, checks and check book, coin collection, jewelry and on and on. Got the computer tower, digital camera and pair of binnoculars back about a week afterwards. By that time we had purchased a new tower and changed our internet service. LOTS of forged checks have been passed (about $4,500 so far) but luckily we alerted our banking facility right away and we are not liable, just an unbelievable hassle.

Since the keys for the Tahoe were stolen and never recovered we had the Tahoe igintion rekeyed with a new igintion tumbler, switch and harness assembly and the door lock tumblers rekeyed. Not a cheap process but the alternative was not very promising with a stolen Tahoe.

Since the ignition rekey and replacing the switch and harness assembly the security light issue has not returned. The ignition harness and switch assemby we replaced is PN # 26075995. Cost for the harness was $190.19
list. Not cheap but we had no alternative. Not sure if that helps your case or not but so far our security light issue has not returned since.
