Pontiac into truck motor mount pics

Some one did some good work under the hood of this pig. For those unaware, this would be the Pontiac 350 in my '70 one ton Longhorn. The comparison pics are the proper chevy 350 in my '69 1/2 ton GMC.
The motor mount towers seem to hold the motor lower in the frame, which since the Pontiac has a higher deck height, this is a good thing. The towers are also longer...from front to back.
The Chevy engine is mounted in the 2 forwasd holes, while the Pontiac is taking the forward AND the rear hole.
Some one did there homework here.
Is there a chance that these towers are 4X4 towers? How about big block towers?
Here's the pics;
These are all driver side pics.
Here is the Longhorn...

See how low this tower seems to hold it...lower and further out.

those are both big block towers the pontiac is sitting on 72 bb towers and yor gmc is sitting on 67-71 towers thats why the motor mounts rub the frame tower a little.hope this helps.

Where in the hell did they get those mounts and I can not understand how the mount bolts up to it?

Johns70, you sure bout the GMC towers? I had the exact same ones in my old Longhorn, and it was an unmollested rig.
Indian....give more detail on what you're looking at, and I'll zoom in on it a little better.

the engine mount bolts to the front two holes and the bottom one angles back and bolts to the back hole.if this is the case it's a big block mount 67-71.i just rebuilt my bb motor and i switched from the late to the newer mounts like your pontiac motor has.

i looked a little closer and on the gmc it has the rubber under the mount also, if it has a large hole in the tower it is definatley a bb mount.

they make two different towers for the small block one set for the front mounting holes and another set for the back mounting holes.they look simalar to the bb towers, instead of angleing back they go staight down to lower hole that sits in line with the top two holes, and if i remember right the bolt hole that ataches the rubber mount to the tower is small dia.and off subject the 292 six uses one tower in front and one tower in back mount, and the 250 six uses the same on both sides i think, its been so long since i did any six cycle and small bock stuff. hope this helps

I see a set of 68-71 BB towers,and a set of 73 up style-they look similar to the 72's

Fast68Chevy 05-06-2002 02:24 PM

72bb towers have rounded top flange corners- not square ones like in 73-up for all engines,
73-up BB ones are roughly 1/2" shorter than SB ones in length, will have to measure my 76 BB ones ot make sure of that and compare ot all my 73-80 SB ones.

72 BB oens are one of a kind, go compare 72 bb ones to 73-up ones and you wil see what i mean

what towers are those in the GMC ? 68-71 BB ?? or V-6 ones ?

In the GMC, I had thought they were small block. The old Longhorn had the same ones too...now that i think about it, the GMC's left tower if from the Longhorn, and the right one was in there when i bought it.

they sure look a helluva lot better than the mounts on my pontiac 350 in my 71, mine are homeade and look like crap, but they do the job i guess, my motor sits a little higher i think though

Longhorn Man 05-06-2002 07:56 PM

I wouldn't wanna go much higher than this one...

Find a truck where the pontiac motor still uses a fan shroud!

Not for me! Its all goin in some day? Talked to the wife last night, and was talking about just getting a loan to buy a truck? If I build one I will have like 20,000 into the truck easy! I am very picky with my vehicles, I do it right or dont do it. Its never cheap! But I still have this 428 to use, os if I buy a nice truck I will still use this motor at some point!
