track times with ls1

I made it to the track finnally.
Ran 3 back to back 1/4 mile passes.
all 3 were 12.41 at 106.5, my 60ft was a soft 1.85.

I would take some more pics of the truck but my wifes camera died. There is some on the board somewhere though.

Engine is a 6.0L iron block, L92 heads, and thorley headers. I copied the 6.0L that carcraft did. I just used a proform 750 instead of a 850.
Transmission is a turbo 350 with a PTC street fighter convertor, it needs to be looser. Rear gear is a 3.73 (needs lower gear) and a 315/60 drag radial.

That's looking good. What happend in the first 60' will compound down track,, so I see closer to 12.oh's in your future once you get it hooking.
Good job.

That's very impressive with the soft 60ft. I went almost that 60ft with a 13.554 1/4 in my old 71 street truck on a 28.5 12.5 Sportsman Pro

Thanks,

I know it would pick up alot with more gear or higher stall. I am still tuning on the carb right now.

Re: track times with ls1

First time at the track, my truck bested a 12.44@110mph with a 1.87 60'. This was 3,900lbs with me in it (57/43 weight bias), 3.73 gears, 26" tire and a 3,200 rpm stall. You have a few more cubes than me starting with a 6.0 block, but I would bet you have more weight as well it being an iron block.

Dropping down to 3,840 (53/47 weight bias), going to a 4,400 verter (flashes to 4,900), running a 30" tall tire, adding a crank pulley and adjusting the tune slightly I ran the numbers in my sig.

You definately have more in it.

What size verter is in it now?
What about weight?
Also, how is your tune?

Re: track times with ls1

Also, curious to know what the part number is on the headers you bought.

converter is a ptc super street fighter, I think it is a 3400-3600.

I have an idea on weight, probably 3900 with me. I have not weighed it yet the scales at the track were not working.

I tried the timing from 32-36 and it still ran the same. The air/fuel ratio was 12.2 at the track, also it didn't act right transitioning to wot.
I have been working on that tonight and have it figured out.

I bought the headers from doug thorely, they said I was like the 3rd or 4th person to get them.
I will have to try and find the part #.

Should be thy324y-c for the 67-72's. Jamie posted the info here and posted a board price also.

Re: track times with ls1

Updated..

I worked on the tuneup,,jetting and pumpshots.
1.81 60ft
12.24 at 108mph.

I have not taken the powersteering loose or waterpump, also have full exhaust. I now have some better mufflers for it.
I sent my convertor off to PTC to get it loosened up 500, maybe that will help the most to get it in the 11's..

Anybody know how much a electric water pump will help?

Improvements are good. Any idea where your making peak TQ? you might be better with a 4,400 verter.

Electric Water pump may give you 12-15HP @6000+

Love the truck

Don't know about the tq, but it doesnt have any down low. The truck doesn't start really moving till 5k. I shift at 7000 and it drops to 5100-5200. I can footbrake this convertor to 3000, if I am rolling in high gear and floor it, it seems like it goes to 3800-4000.

I did weigh it. With me in it, it weighs 3800 on the dot.

Re: track times with ls1

Are you looking for a street or race pump? I have two Mezeires, one street and one race. Been thinking about selling the race one but I probably should keep it for the car.

I'd say go with the 4,400 verter. Going from a 3,200 to a 4,400 (flashes to 4,900 at the track) I dropped a solid .2 in my 60'.

I want the street pump, I am eventually going to put heat and a/c in the truck, plus I need to keep the powersteering.

If I could just drop a .1 on 60' I think it would run 11's.
How far does yours drop back on the shift change?

Super73 11-26-2008 01:20 PM

Re: track times with ls1

The old converter was about 2k rpm. This one is about 1,600 rpm.

Re: track times with ls1

Mine drops from 7k to 5000 on the shift change.
