*NOTE*
Multiple threads by the same poster combined.... thats why the redundant redundancy here.

Seems to be all original. 3/4 ton, extended frame with 8 foot bed, four pickup truck doors, matching number 454 BB and 400th trans, PS, PDB, but no air. I have seen one before at a show, but I thought it was a custom build. Is it real? tnchev@yahoo.com

Can't be a matching numbers 454. No 454 offered in our year trucks.

First, not a matching numbers 454, they didn't match with the vins like in the muscle cars,
Second, 454 not available as an option until 1973
Third, It was most likely a forest service or railroad truck, do a search on here and you can find plenty of pics and more info.
Hope this helps.

That gold with white crew cab is the baddest of the baddest crew I have ever seen... Heard it was once for sale,, wish I was Bill Gates, would rather
drive the crew than a Rolls or a Maybach.

Man, I have seen that gold/white crew so many times. But it's still hot!

every truck pictured in this thread was custom built by the owner, and not a crew cab conversion from back in the day.
There is no telling who your crew cab was sold to originally, there were more than just forestry and millitary buying them.... actually, I don't even think the millitary was buying them. Any average joe could get one.
And, as mentioned above, the 454 was not offered till73.

Let`s not hijack this guys thread with that gold truck we`ve been seeing for the past 4 years.
What you saw was a conversion done by an outside source, since no factory truck was offered this way. There are two companies that I`m aware of that used the truck doors to make a 4-door cab.One company is Scott-Bilt in OK and the other was the Alton Company in MI.They did cabs on medium duties, too.I couldn`t tell you the difference between the two. They look the same.
Is this like what you saw?

This is all I had for pictures.

The Scott-bilt is what I saw, not pretty. I will be going back to his place and look at the option sheet and a closer look at the engine.

Did you say GMC? These were converted by the Alton Co.

Re: 1972 GMC four door crew cab?

Those last two conversions are the butt-ugliest crap I have ever seen converted by anyone. I like the gold one with the suicide doors though....very sharp!

Re: 1972 GMC four door crew cab?

But it is like LonghornMan said, the gold/white is a high-dollar conversion done by a professional. The true crew cabs are bugly....and I don't care who you are.....they ain't funny!

Re: 1972 GMC four door crew cab?

wait wait. Let's not forget the. Crewcab that is one off factory production that hart rod got from a member on this board. That was a nice crew cab built by the factory. It just never made the production line.

I am getting tired of seeing the gold truck.

These trucks were built for purpose not style. Yes they are fugly because we're not used to them but I'd own one. I plan on making my 71 into a crew like the gold one (I'm sick of it too but it still looks cool) but mine will be jacked up.

I am waiting for the one that RokCrln turned into a 4 door to be finished up. That thing is going to be sweet!

Re: 1972 GMC four door crew cab?

The military used the dodge crew cabs for the most part

special-K 12-19-2008 09:55 PM

Re: 1972 GMC four door crew cab?

The purpose for a crew cab "was" for hauling a "crew".These were employee driven company work trucks that had the added expense of a custom body conversion.I`m sure it was a matter of economics to use truck doors rather than make something custom just for looks.

I apologize for starting this thread. I was just curious, didn't think about the ripple effect. I am new.
