68 Suburban Coolbus Build/maintain.

The story goes.... we had a 53 Plymouth cranbrook 4 door that we just outgrew with the birth of our latest addition this past Thursday! Soo we found this sweet 1968 Suburban 3 door up in Tucson for sale by the 2nd owner. Even came with service records from 1968 till about 1983. It was sitting out in the calm Arizona sun for many many years in an unmolested but undrivable state. Insert me... and after a few hours of tinkering, fluid changes, brake checks, and other safety related things I got it running and decided to drive it the 75 miles back to my house! Well I made with my wife and 4 kids following in the chase van. Once home, today....a nice sunny Sunday we went to work cleaning and waxing, changing plugs and wires, lubing and eventually going for the first family ride in our new CoolBus. Everyone was smiles even the people we passed. It must not be every day that you see a young family go to work and enjoy a classic truck like this....oh and it is bright yellow, which may have something to do with the attention as well.
[EDIT] oh yeah I paid $1300.00 for it :)

Below are some pictures of the day I went to see it and from today after the cleanup.

We are most likely going to keep it stock'ish but comfortable and use it tow the quads and kids dirt-bikes with.

AWESOME! Great name too! I love people who like myself who truly use and drive them regularly. That was a smokin' deal for $1300!

Thanks for all the compliments, we really did score a good buy with this burb.

Just pulled the rubber mats and undercoating today and rhino lined the inside. Well at least I finished the front portion of the cab Ill get the second row area done tomorrow, and most likely leave the 3rd row area alone...as its mat is in pretty good shape. Tuff for me and my kids... no silly carpet would survive a week with us.

Now as far as seats..... I dont really know what route Im going to go with them just yet.

Oh yeah its going to be my daily driver and kid hauler! Today was the first day I picked the kids up from daycare after work and they went nuts when they saw the coolbus parked in front.

Sweet. I would love to be picked up from daycare in that lol. I know you want to keep it mostly stock, which is great for practicality, but it would sure look sick scrapin' bumper!

Had a pretty productive weekend, my wife helped install a home-brew headliner and we made seat covers out of Mexican blankets. 6 bux a cover was way cheap compared to store bought going for $30. I didn't even price a headliner but we made one out of black fleece just as a test and it turned out pretty nice. Still have to track down another matching blanket to redo the front seat but we are happy with our little project.
