Wow. . . . . . . . . .

trixter99 12-30-2002 02:44 AM

Sorry for notposting any specs.....It has a fairly stock 350 that runs on propane 6"suspension 3"bodylift rolls on 37 12.50 16"wheels and tires.I did all the bodywork and painted it myself .The body was pretty bad so needless to say I put allnew GM panels except front fenders . The paint is Dupont laser red tri-coat, it looks exactly like true candy apple red and is very deep but prone to ugly huge rock chips. O ya i am a bodyman by trade, Sorry I did'nt post any specs before but I'm just learning this picture posting thing and was suprised it even worked........ later .....Darcy

That is a really sweet color. Very nice!

Darcy, that color is awesome! You said it is Dupont laser red tri-coat; what does that mean? Is tri-coat a special procedure-not the same as base/clear coat (I would assume that would be a 'duo-coat',,)? Is it possible to get a light/bright blue with the same process (similar to a stock 70/71 GMC blue-didn't come on Chevy's apparently)? thanks-Paul

old Rusty C10 12-30-2002 05:30 PM

shes a beauty i hope mine turns out as well:bowtie: :flag:

trixter99 12-30-2002 08:57 PM

Paul, laser red is just the name of the color and tri coat means there is a base color coat a tinted mid coat and then top coat(clearcoat) I think you could make any color you want if you just have the time to play with. Just remember any time you build a custom color the chances of matching it are greatly reduced compared to a ready made formula. This color is a (ford- mazda) formula.:canada:

I do not know a lot about paint processes,, is your paint job similar to what was found on the 88 300zx limited edition's (pearlescent white) and also on new cadilac's (pearlescent offwhite)? when a metallic is applied, is it generally a single base coat? I have a 96 Chevy suburban with 'dark cherry metallic', do you know if that is a regular base/clear coat? The reason I'm asking all of these questions is first of all I don't know the answers :), second I really like the look of these paints when the angle of viewing the paintjob changes and I'm trying to plan for my 72's paint job.
thanks-Paul

trixter99 12-31-2002 01:18 AM

Paul, as far as I know the caddy is a pearl tri-coat we have repaired one at the shop I work at acouple of times the color is a ***** to match,I am unsure about the nissan paint, and if your suburban has factory paint it is for sure a base/clear system. The reason these paint jobs seem to change hues is because of all the pearls in the paint. My truck has no pearl in the paint just a really coarse metalic red base with a blood red transparent mid coat, and it has a really dark burgandy side tone I think it is becuase I put the mid coat on heavier than you would if you were just trying to match a panel.

nice nice nice hey what kind of 37s are they swampersthey look so much better than my 35s i have the same amount of lift and mine looks smaller:gmc:

trixter99 01-03-2003 10:14 PM

They're Super Swamper Radials they dig awsome but absolutley suck on ice.

Mudder 01-03-2003 10:40 PM

Beast388 01-04-2003 04:25 PM

Sweet color and sweet truck!!:D :flag:

Txstruck 01-05-2003 04:43 PM

Thats the same lift and size tires I want on my 86 K30. I think Ill take that pic and photoshop it with camo paint like my truck has so Ill know what it will look like. Man does she look good!!! How does she handle? Did you use any blocks with the 8" lift?

6869704X4 01-06-2003 11:41 AM

That truck is super sharp.
How do your swampers do in the cold as far as flat spots. I'm half way to work(11miles) before mine smooth out. And its only down in the 30s/40s here. I can only fill my coffee cup about half way to keep it from bouncing out.

trixter99 01-06-2003 03:21 PM

My lift is 6"springs front and rear as well as a 3" body lift. The swampers get horrible flat spots at -25 but who cares how it rides as long as it looks cool. It handles pretty well for a lifted truck partly I think because of the 16" wheels ( less sidewall). Darcy
