$18 dash/door panel interior job?

well,i know a lot of guys will think this is quite hidiuous or so,but i had to think of a way to make the interior of my 78 k10 nicer then what it was,ill never get a date with it that hidious.

soo....
as for the door panels how they were like rotting and shedding the plastic,i remvoed them, sanded them down lightly, and painted them with 'dupli-color' 'spatter paint' grey and white.which is usually for painting the trunks of cars,it comes out thick like conrete, fills in everything and turn sout REALLY good. i polished the chrome stripping a bit,and took some carpet i had in the shed, which is just cheap dark blue boat carpet, and re-covered the carpet bottom of the door panels.

dash-i took drywall spackle and carefully filled in all the cracks and sanded and smoothed them down, then went over the entire dash with spatter paint.

i imagina after the spatter paint to fill it all in and cover it all up nicely you could take a high gloss and paint it any color you desired, but i liked the color it isit has white speckles all in the grey everywhere.

yea,it is a bit cheap, but it worked GREAT! and ONLY COST ME 18$ :)

thought i would share for anyone that may wanna make it look good without spending hundreds haha

Nice work. Now spend some time cleaning the rest of the interior to show it off.

A word of warning. The splatter paint is not water proof and will turn to mush and sluff off if it gets wet. You need to put a flat clear coat over it to protect it from the weather. I do this with my trunks and it works great.

Zolatone is a little more expensive (about $40 a quart) but is water proof and is tough as nails. The splatter paint is pretty easy to damage but the clear coat helps.

yea i was thinking about that clear coat.
but couldnt beat the job for the price.

the truck is getting THOUROUGLY cleaned at the moment,i just took those pics before i went inside for the night,it was like 11 at night lol.

but the floor will be getting the sound heat proof insulation, and then some more of that dark blue carpet to match that i have laying around(free) :metal:

anyone got idead for a headliner job or what?!try to evenly cut carpet to put up there and glue it and on the edge use the old screws and washers that are in there or what?

You can buy textured paint for outdoor furniture, looks to the same coloring as that. I used some on the rockers on my old S-10, looked good and held up good. Well, good for a New York winter.

looks good for the cost. lets see it after a couple months of our warm summer days. toss a dash cover on top and nobody will ever know.
