What's my burb going to be worth?

4 Attachment(s)
I currently have my Burb' torn down for paint but have a potential buyer for it. I'm curious what you guys think it might be worth when done and painted. I will be selling it either now or once it's put back together. Will look the same as these pics but with paint on the inside and out. And everything (engine bay, etc) will be much cleaner than it was before. The pics are from before the teardown when it was primered.

Not even a rough guess from anyone?

What you need to do is look at what you were offered for it as is and then again look at what paint and time to re-assemble will cost and see if you think you can get more after. Right now prices are all over the board. You might get 10k+ from one guy and another wouldn't pay more then 3K. So you need to look at what your current offers are and how fast you want to sell.

That's exactly what I'm trying to do, by getting some opinions on it's value. Not havin' much luck though.

Hmm. I could see north of 10k as is. Painted would be more but leaving the color for someone else to pick might also be desirable. Of course I'm in the rust belt so minimal rust inflates the price in my area. If you have a lot of competition from like burbs in your area it might be hard to sell fast. The LS based engine and OD is sure a plus for me. The quality of the install on the upgrades and future paint will go along ways toward the selling price also.

Re: What's my burb going to be worth?

It has no competition in my area. The guy looking at it is up in Canada. I won't sell it to anyone living within 200 miles of me so he is perfect. I'm really hoping he makes a good offer cause I've lost most desire to finish it. But if I do, it will be done right!

Painted will be 10k easy.

wow, you did a real nice job with that,Did you sell it?

Re: What's my burb going to be worth?

Thanks! Still have it. The guy interested in it is from Canada and wants to come down and see it in person before he makes an offer. I'm not holding my breath though. I just ordered a set of Doug Thorley LSx swap headers for it so hopefully when they arrive it will motivate me to work on it again. It's registered for Hot August Nights this year so that's my only time frame for finishing it, if I keep it.

IMO it`s worth at least 10 now. My build is very similar to yours and when it is finished it would take at least 20k for me to part with it. Just my 2 pennies.

what disk brakes do you have on the 14 bolt?

Re: What's my burb going to be worth?

Scott: your numbers are more of what I had in mind. The guy actually bought another car from me and asked if I'd like to sell the Burb also. I told him only if I wasn't going to lose my ass on it. I figure I'm into it roughly 13-15k (counting original purchase price) so far, and I told him that. I doubt I'd consider less than 10k for it. Most of the fairly comperable burbs I've seen finished were in the 20k range. I haven't seen any with the late model drivetrain though so I'm not sure how that will affect the price, hence this thread.
IAFF2407: The brakes are a kit I got off Ebay. They are just late 70's, early 80's Chevy truck front rotors and calipers with a custom mounting bracket. Fit real nice and parts will be cheap and easy when it comes time for replacement. I do plan on adding a manual proportioning valve though cause right now the rear tires just lock up if I stomp on the brakes too hard.

Do you still have it? Have you taken it in for paint?

Re: What's my burb going to be worth?

I guess I will be the optimist. I would say, with a little detail work under the hood and a paint job (inside and out), you could easily get $25k on a national platform like ebay. It looks like there is a lot there to work with. And, in my opinion... in the old Suburban market you are gonna find the right guy. You've done the hard work.

Mine is a similar theme, but 5.7 Vortec on a 2wd modern chassis and I wouldn't take a penny less than 25k (on a bad day). But, since I drive mine everyday and cant say a single bad word about it, I would be willing to hold out for something around 35.

So, basically it isn't for sale. :)

I would think that in it's current state, you would have bidders on ebay lining up at $10k. With a little detailing to the engine bay (radiator, master cylinder, inner fenders), you could probably get it into the $12-13k range. Next to that modern powerplant, that radiator is lookin pretty rough.

Just my thoughts. I wish you the best, because I get excited everytime I see one jump into the 20's. That is one awesome Burb.

I would keep it. They are a unique breed.

Re: What's my burb going to be worth?

Guess it's time for an update.

Last summer I worked quite a bit on it. I took the entire body, inside and out, down to bare metal and started fresh. Then pulled or filled any body issues. Shot the primer and block sanded the entire truck. Primered again and shot a sealer. That is how it sits right now. The body and axles are the only things attached to the frame. I'm basically just waiting for it to warm up again so I can paint it.

As for the engine bay. When the pictures were taken above, all I had done was get the motor in and running so I could drive it. The radiator has since been replaced, and probably will be again with an aluminum unit. The firewall is now filled and smoothed over and I have brand new inner fenders waiting to go back in. I'm swapping over to a hydroboost setup for the brakes, so all that ugly stock stuff will be gone. I plan to re-do the harness to clean it up as well. I also have some Doug Thorley LSx swap headers for it. Those might end for sale though, as I have a real itch to put a twin turbo setup on it.

The axles have all been cleaned up and painted. New aluminum diff covers and powder coated calipers. I also picked up a set of Rancho RS9000 shocks with the air compressor and remote control level adjuster. The front springs have also been replaced with 8" lift units, and new, beefier shackles in the rear. I don't want to crumple fresh painted fenders.

In the corner of the garage is a giant pile of brand new trim pieces waiting to go on, bumpers, grill, lights, bezels, interior harness, back up camera, Vintage Air Magnum IV, etc.

I just sold my 00' Chevy crew cab yesterday so now I'm really motivated to get back on this thing. I don't like not having a big truck of some sort.

That's an awesome Burb! All the nice parts of late model, with the great looks of a classic! So unique I'd be hard pressed to think you couldn't get your expenditure back on it.

From where I sit looking at your picts and reading your story,it is worth EXACTLY what you price it at, be it 5K,15K or 35K.it is not like they make them everyday, and everyone has one, let alone a nice one like that.I say price it at sum that you wouldnt feel bad selling it for, cause one day you will look back and say,I wish I had kept it,so the more you get for it the less you will regret it later.

Its always disappointing when a thread is looking good and all of a sudden poof its over.

I did see even though this thread ends quite awhile back the OP was on the board last one year ago.
