new to me 71

Just sealed the deal on this little gem, 71 c20, custom camper, 402/th400, ps/air. Bought it from my uncle whose had it since 71. It has been sitting since 97, had a crack in the radiator that he had repaired but never put the radiator back on it. Has been sitting in the barn until a few weeks ago, pulled it out because he needed the room. He knew I was kinda into them and hit me up about it to see if I would be interested. It has been a farm truck all it's life, and I hadn't seen it in close to 20, so I figured the body would be toast. There is a quarter size rust hole in the driver cab corner, and a little bubbling on the pass door, that is it, even the driver floor is just surface rusty. I couldn't believe the shape its in, was left with no choice but to buy it, esp for the price. The grill and interior is in great shape. I am going to give it a good scrub down and get it running/driving for now. I don't know it's fate from there. I hate to say but likely a swb 1/2 ton conversion. I have a 69 swb in the garage with a 5.3/4l60e swap I really at least need to get driving before I dig too much into another one.

nice truck, i just got mine a lil while ago and it runs good so im using it as a parts hauler for now untill im ready for body work. I wish i had a swb 1/2 also then I would just build this one for towing/work etc.

That thing is entirely WAY too far gone to even mess with. PM me your address and I'll send a friend over so I can dispose of it for you. :)

I'd do what the other posters said, clean it and then just drive the snot out of it.

Looks like my twin

I have the same truck (except a 72) and am converting it to a 1/2 ton SWB as we speak. Ochre trucks seem to be the best survivors for some reason...

Man it does look like it's twin, Nice lookin start you have, I wish I had your trim. I'll have to keep an eye on your progress. Funny you mention that about the ochre trucks. There are 2 other ones here in town that are for the most part og, and have lasted very well. One of them has some sort of old business logo on the bedside, looks perfect as it is. First task will definitly be getting it running and moving. I can push/move the shorty around by myself, I don't think that will be the case with this tank.

I would put modern rims and tires on it and use it to pull my car trailer home with more old truck stuff. That big block will tow just about anything! Use it as a TRUCK!!!!

Looks like a nice solid truck. If it were mine, I'd restore it as it was built and use it some. I cringe at the number of these trucks that are being cut up. Another 10 years and there won't be any originals left (well maybe I'm exaggerating some). In any event - nice score.
