need info on a tranny swap
I have a 69 lwb chevy 1/2 ton with a 73' "car" 350 and I believe it is a saginaw 3 on the tree. What I need to know is what all I would have to do to put in a 700R4 in place of the 3 on the tree.

you need a auto crossmember, tv cable, cooler lines, a radiator with cooler hookups or a add on cooler and driveshaft will maybe need to be modified, and a auto column or a shifter in the floor not hard at all i did my 71 last year

Re: need info on a tranny swap
where is the cheapest place to look for all that?

Re: need info on a tranny swap
if your lucky enough to have a "9 in. tail on that turbo 350,it'll be the same size as a 700r
so the driveshaft will be the same length. i'm doing the swap next spring, and i just bought a heavy duty,racing,1 piece driveshaft. One less thing to worry about. LOL |
Re: need info on a tranny swap
You will also need a block-mounted starter to match your flexplate. The stock manual transmission starter bolts to the bellhousing.

Re: need info on a tranny swap
Ok, at the risk of looking stupid, what's a tv cable?
|
Re: need info on a tranny swap
thats the cable responsible for engaging your overdrive gear. if it isn't setup properly it will destroy your transmission

Re: need info on a tranny swap
Is is a mechanical switch, or electronic?

Re: need info on a tranny swap
TV means throttle valve. The TV cable is a mechanical connection between your truck's throttle linkage and the throttle valve inside the transmission. The throttle valve controls oil pressure in the transmission in accordance with the amount the throttle is opened.

If you're talking 4wd you need all the above plus the correct aftermarket output shaft, th350 to NP205 adapter, and a NP205 that originally came out of a truck with a th350. |
