Which way do the engine stands go in?
I have had my Ls in and out so many times with so many combinations, I don't remember which way the original stands are suppose to go. Pointed part forward or back? Use the most forward holes or the rear most holes on the frame?

Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
which ones you got? stock? Aftermarket? What year truck?
OK, duh! Stock ones you said, I tried to use my stock perches on my lsx install but could not install the manifolds and headers with them in. I used some POL perches and they set the engine up about an inch, this doesnt make clearance up top any kind of issue. |
Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
I have a 72 GMC 1500 2wd, I am trying to use the original engine stands with Prothane mounts and TPI parts adapter plates. Cant remember which way the original engine stands go in and which position. I had a 350 sbc in it.

Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
on my 65 I used the rear holes, I needed more room up front for the Rad and cooling fans. It is still a good 1.5" from the firewall even in the last holes.

Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
You know how the one side of the engine stand is at a 90* and the other is slightly pointed, I have the point facing forward, is that correct? Thanks!! I guess I'll go pull it again.

does this shot help you?

Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
Not really, I need a pic looking down across the front crossmember. The factory assembly manual and service manual doesnt have any good pics either. thanks!

Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
well, I am pretty sure they can only fit one way, however your wanting to know also which one goes to which side correct?
|
Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
Yes. I'm pretty sure they're in the right way but want to verify before going further because bolts won't go in the mounts thru stands.

Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
THe more I think about it, the more I start remembering they bow a little right? not rediculously but they bow.
if this is correct, the bow goes toward the front of the truck, I guess pointing kinda toward the front. |

Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
Currently mine are bowing back and mounted in front holes. Probably wrong.
|
Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
from my searches here in the forum, they should be in rear and pointer forward for I6 and V8's.

Heres what mine look like right now and the bolts will not go thru the stands and into the mounts. I might have the wrong stands?
|
Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
I think you need to move them back to the rear hole, then they should line up.
|
Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
If I move them back to the rear hole then the single hole at the bottom does not mount in the crossmember, it hangs off the back of it about 1/2". Thanks again for your time and help Clyde65.

Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?

Yes. I'm pretty sure they're in the right way but want to verify before going further because bolts won't go in the mounts thru stands.

This is a trial effort on uploading pictures. If it works I'll come back with an explanation.
Dean Hey not bad for a rookie. These are the only pictures I have of the bare engine bay on my '64' Chevy. I removed a 230 inch 6 banger and this is where the perches were bolted. Hope this helps. Dean |

Here's another shot of the perch in the same holes as original picture excetp from a better view. It does hang off the back side of the cross member a little bit, but that's how they were. The second picture is side by side with the mounts I just got for my LS motor. Driver side looking down, right side toward tranny. Any other shots you need while I've got my camera out?

Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
With the '63-'66 trucks, all the motor mount brackets (V8 and I6's) except for the 292, are located in the rear most holes from the factory. In the '67-'72 model years, the small block motor miount brackets are located in the forward holes, and the 230/250 I6 motor mount brackets are located in the rear holes. These are the factory locations.
chevydog66, by looking at your pics, I would say you need to switch sides on those motor mount brackets. They just don't look right to me. |
Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
I have a 72. There's no holes in crossmember for bottom holes of stands to bolt to if I switch them around. I'm so confused and tired of this. But thanks guys. What to do?

Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
I got it in the way the stands are in my pic but had to slot everything.
|
Re: Which way do the engine stands go in?
Dean, those are the mounts you purchased from me, correct?
