Project: PITA

finally get to start a build thread woot!

history (copied and pasted from my intro thread) of the truck...

when i bought it had redneck written all over it with the chrome bed linered over, two mud tires on the back, and camo all in the interior...
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._4575023_n.jpg

i didnt waste any time changing this thing into a respectible vehicle...

quick wash and bug shield removal...
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._4747661_n.jpg

sanded for primer, body work mostly complete, stupid camo vinyl removed, and taped off...

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._5202511_n.jpg

ran out of primer in first batch...
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._5759573_n.jpg

halfway through second dusting of primer...
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._6576388_n.jpg

finished, but still wet...

engine.... not the stock engine.. this truck started life as a simple v6 with a th350 in it.... now it has a mild 350 and th400...

Re: Project: PITA

i sanded the entire truck with 800 grit this morning.. turns out 3 good heavy coats of Eastwood epoxy primer isnt as thick as i was wanting.. but i did run across a lot of low spots along the top of the bed rail..

I resanded those spots with 220grit, then reprimed with duplicolor high build primer to help smooth em out...

pics will come tomorrow in the daylight

Re: Project: PITA

man your wiper cowl is jacked up aint it?

them wheels need brillo pad'd lol that'd clean em up nice.

What body work did the rails need?

The rust aint bad a patch panel is cheap and quick easy fix. Very typical too all the mud and crap lays in there thanks to the inner brace that runs down that area.

Looks like the ds door gap is funky in front, I hate that crap, dads 84 was like that, couldn't get it nice either.

You remove the drip rails over the doors or was it already done? Also noticed they had an antenna drilled into the ps fender too. That and the grille looks funny on the ds bottom like nothing is holding it?

I like that flat black and phantom grille.

what else ya gonna do to her?

no, it is still in good condition, just didnt feel like pulling the hood (yet) to put it back in

plan on it sometime next week... would rather wait til after i get matching tires for teh back

What body work did the rails need?

appeared that there was a ladder rack or something attached to it at one time. so there was probably 3 dozen holes randomly drilled down the rail that i welded patch panels into and smoothed it back out

actuall made my own panels and recreated the curve with minimal bondo needed. the inner brace is the WORST design chevy could ever come up with. it rusted from the inside out because of dirt and crap that got caked up in there

i have reason to believe it isnt the factory door due to when i was sanding, it was red, where the rest of the truck was a dark burgandy color

am going to put the drip rails back on. i like the look of them, just need to get a set of new ones. the ones that were on it, the PO covered them in bed liner, like every other peice of chrome on the truck

and the grille, nothing is holding it on the bottom. havent taken the time to run the 3 screws back in on the bottom, or get the trim that goes around it.

i was debating on the antenna hole. i believe i am just going to leave it and keep the antena there. i dont plan on shaving the truck of anything but the tailgate handle, when i get one

I like that flat black and phantom grille.

me too... but it wont stay that way if i can help it.

what else ya gonna do to her?

once i sell the wreckage of my previous truck, i am going to get a 3/4 drop, and matching tires on the back,

finish the body work

paint it with the copper color of "project copperhead"

finish interior with a fiberglass console, new gauges

motor needs a set of heads, so probably will get a set of vortec heads, and the intake to match them, along with a 150 shot of nitrous for the track...

tahts all i got on my mind at the moment

Chris everytime I check on that link to see your vehicles, it says I have to be signed in. Is that something that needs to be changed, or do I have to sign up to see your vehicles.

Re: Project: PITA

aahhh I aint been on it in forever maybe it's messed up now I'll have to look into it. I don't even remember the password for it now lol.

ANyways I hear ya, love the copperhead color, love to paint something that color myself.

I thought on your wiper cowl the ps outer piece was gone completely and the inner was there, like it had rotted off lol.

I hate all the holes for bed rails, ladder racks, or hand rails.

Yea matching tires is a good thing man.

I'm with ya, like the drip rails, had a time trying to find one for dad's cuz the chrome was ripped half off.

hate all the chrome being gone, blacked out or bedlinered.

I like your tastes mine sounds like the same things I like.
