Max tire with 6" lift/axle width

hey guys ive been searching the threads for a couple days and i cant seem to find what im looking for. whats the max tire you can put on with a 6 inch lift without trimming? ive been restoring a 83 chevy k20 and i swapped in a dana 60 front axle, i noticed the front dana 60 axle is approximately 3 inches wider than my 14 bolt... is that normal?

Re: Max tire with 6" lift/axle width

I believe 35" tires will fit with 6" lift....

As far as the track width being different, yes this is typical.

do you think 37's will fit?

It all depends on what you plan on doing with the truck. Is it a wheeler? 35s will give you a ton of room for articulation I've seen 37s and even 38s on a 6in lift.
6in lift 37s on a 16.5x8.25 wheel

i plan on it to be a daily driver and go wheeling on the weekend but i dont want to cut the fenders up since i just painted it lol i know a true 4x4 has different tracs for stability and so one wheel never goes in the same rut but seeing as i drive the highway quite a bit would it cause any problems to leave the tracs different or would it be better to add wheel spacers to narrow the difference in widths?

If your going to wheel it at all, just go 35's. I run 36's and I already mangled my drivers side fender a bit, and now it rubs even on the little grades.

Re: Max tire with 6" lift/axle width

I had a 79 Blazer with 36" Swampers on 4" suspension and 3" body lift with no rubbing issues. I only used it on the pavement but clearance was never an issue. Keep in mind that not all listed tire sizes are entirely accurate. Some 36" tires are actually taller, some shorter, etc.

thanks for the help everyone, i think im just going to get some 35" BFG mud tires i just have one more question i need answered! with the trac of the front axle being wider than the rear is their any disadvantage to it?

Re: Max tire with 6" lift/axle width

No disadvantage. This is actually normal for these trucks. It's the way they came from the factory.

Re: Max tire with 6" lift/axle width

The different rack width is for one so the tires do not follow the same imperfections in the road, however it also helps off road (mud) because the rear tires do not follow the exact same path as the front giving them some fresh earth to get traction on.
