Alt exciter wire?

I know that the PCM excites the Alt on my 5.3. What is going to make the light in the dash function? Will it come on and stay on since it is now disconnected? Jay

it should not, basically you took away it's ground if it is not hooked up.... if I remember correct. I don't have the one in my blazer hooked up and it does not come on. Depending on what year model alt you have it should have 2 wires (if you are using a truck harness) and you can probably use the b pin to go to your - dash light pin. I am using a fbody harness and it has one wire but I am using a trk alt and the one wire went to pin B on the plug and then to the neg of the dash light. I had mine hooked up like that but the bulb shot and it was easier to install a light under the dash than pull the cluster back out.

should be pin c. A friend bought a painless harness and was instructed to use the dash light or use a resistor from pin c and tap it into b to complete the circuit. Me, I was lazy and just ran the resistor. been that way for about 3 years.

Mine is on pin B (98 camaro harness) but it might burn up the alt, we will see. That is the same way my 67 was to (98 harness/trk acc).
