1988 GMC Sierra Work Truck [Rebadged as Chevrolet]

Well, I've already got the thread for my '92 up, so I figured it was time to put up the pics of my '88. I've had this truck over two years now, it went from daily driver to work truck. Here's a couple pics from when I first got it:
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/02.jpg
God, I hated those wheels so bad.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/01.jpg
And here's pics of it up on blocks out back.
First two are when my dad and I put new brakes all around on it.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/07.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/08.jpg
These next two, were when we rebuilt the entire front suspension, and got rid of those hideous saw-blade style wheels and put on some Z71 wheels.

Next to come was a new bed in September 2010. Back in about March 2010, we got a '94 Chevy W/T 1500. Nice, clean, rust-free bed. Just paint chipped. No biggie. The red and silver bed was rusted to crap. So, the bed swap began.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/40.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/42.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/44.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/45.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/46.jpg
Something to remember...I screwed up my left knee pulling that bed off. Now my knee's fxcked.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/48.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/50.jpg
Cleaned up the frame a little bit, at least where the bed sits. And put in the spare tire holder from the '94.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/53.jpg
Ta-da! It's on.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/56.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/57.jpg
Now for a nice shiny bath.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/182_0842.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/182_0847.jpg
And no truck is complete, without the classic AutoZone parking lot picture. :D

Then came so far the only issue I've ever had with this truck [Other than my 4WD won't engage]
Oct. 2010, my fuel pump comes off my damn truck right after I put 40 bucks in the tank, and I break down at Taco Bell, so dad had to bring a trailer, and we had to trailer the truck back home. I wasn't pleased.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/66.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/67.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/68.jpg
And by the way, that's the same trailer I turned into a pretzel New Year's Eve 2010.
ANYWAY. Got it back home, and pulled the bed...partially.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/69.jpg
Put some tight ass hose clamps on my fuel pump, cut an access panel, and hope to never have that issue again.

Like the narrating yet? Anyway. November 2010. One of the worst days of my life: Ran it off the road and took out a road sign. Destroyed the passenger's side front fender, busted the mirror, and broke my grille.

After this...it just sat for a few weeks.

Re: 1988 GMC Sierra Work Truck [Rebadged as Chevrolet]

While the '88 was still sitting, I got the wrecked '92.
First thing, was take the front clip off the '88 onto the '92.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/90.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/91.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/92.jpg
The busted hood from the '92 went on the '88 for a while, to keep water out.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/93.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/94.jpg
White fender is off of the '94.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...20K1500/98.jpg
Then we just zip-tied the busted grille that was on the '92, onto the '88.

Re: 1988 GMC Sierra Work Truck [Rebadged as Chevrolet]

And after that zip-tied grille sat there for a while, I got a new front clip fro my '92. And the bowtie grille for that front clip, went on the '88. Along with the front clip directly off of the '92, meaning the '88 got its original front clip back, plus a good passenger's side fender.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...11270953_2.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0K1500/118.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0K1500/119.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0K1500/120.jpg
And now for some interior shots...including a Chevrolet horn cap!
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0K1500/112.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0K1500/113.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0K1500/114.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0K1500/115.jpg
Well, that's all I have on this truck for now. I'll get more pics up when I get the headache rack on it, and the toolbox in it...and another rear bumper, since the rear bumper for this truck is going on my '92.
Thanks for looking. :D

Re: 1988 GMC Sierra Work Truck [Rebadged as Chevrolet]

Well, it's now February 2011. Haven't done shxt with either of my trucks, BUT!!! But but but! My dad's getting some 2000 Z71 aluminum wheels, which are the types of wheels already on his 2000. We're probably gonna stick those ones on my '88. Then the last things to go on the '88, would be all the Sierra badges: the cab badges, and the door interior badges.

Re: 1988 GMC Sierra Work Truck [Rebadged as Chevrolet]

Well, I got the wheels. Pulled off the '97 Tahoe Z71 wheels.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/182_1238.jpg
And I got the late-model wheels on.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/182_1239.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/182_1240.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/182_1241.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/182_1242.jpg
But, I do have a question for anyone that knows. Here's a close-up of the wheels that I put on.http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/182_1244.jpg
Now here's my question. The guy the wheels came from say they were off of a 2000 Chevy Z71. But, these wheels are different than the ones on my dad's 2000 Silverado. Instead of the half-circle where the spokes connect to the wheel, my dad's wheels have 2 bars attached. Does anyone know any differences? If these were actually from a different year or for a certain trim level?

WELL this is great. Covered in snow, and I'm pretty sure the 11-year-old battery is finally toast.

I'm pretty sure the battery charger wasn't built for those conditions either. lol.

those wheels are correct for year and application. GM had several wheel options, its always been that way with GM. I want a 6 lug version of your 92 wheels.

Lol, you'd be surprised. That charger has lasted a long time through harsh weather.

Thanks! I just wasn't sure because they looked different. 6 lug version of the 15x10's I have on my '92? Lol, I haven't seen many of those. I need to polish those wheels. They're 19 years old for cryin' out loud. Lol. What sucks, is we had a 5-lug truck for parts, but it was just parts and at the time I was driving this '88. AFTER we cut and scrapped that 5-lug, I got my '92. Lol, so I have no extra 2WD parts.

Snow's gone finally! :)
Anyway, now that I'm happy with that. Got some more pics of the '88. I know, I post too many pics for these trucks, but I'm proud of 'em! Lol.
So, got it back up and runnin'. And finally threw my headache rack on.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/100_1304.jpg
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/100_1303.jpg
I think that rack looks good on there. Don't you? :D
Of course it being a work truck...I get the bed cleaned out one day, and that same day, throw more junk in it.
http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b2...0/100_1305.jpg
Most of it's just a bunch of scrap that's gonna get cut up and hauled to the scrap yard. Well, that's about all I've got. :D

Getting a little farther with the old '88. Gonna brace the headache rack tomorrow, and hopefully get it painted black then unclamp it and bolt it down to the bed. Then get my toolbox back in and clean up the tools on my floorboard and all that jazz, clean up the interior, get my center console back in, and maybe put my Yosemite Sam mud flaps back on. After that, I'm not sure.

Another update. Yesterday, put my toolbox back in, clamped down the headache rack [haven't painted it yet] and put my mudflaps back on.

And here's a little piece I put together of how it looked when I got it, and how it looks now:

Re: 1988 GMC Sierra Work Truck [Rebadged as Chevrolet]

Goodies and news!!!
First the news. So, haven't been able to start the '88 for 2 months. Turns out the fuel pump went out. So, luckily, when I got the truck it had a brand new still in the box fuel pump behind the seat, so I put that on yesterday and it fired right up! So she lives! :D

Now for the goodies.
These are all out of a '90 Silverado that had been tornado damaged and my cousin bought for scrap. I got bits and pieces from it.
First, gauge cluster. Solid bar style, I hate the stupid slotted bar I had. Odometer is at 146K, and works, but it won't stay on the damn gear.
http://a7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._3244382_n.jpg

Next is a '88-'91? Chevrolet horn cap. I figure it makes the truck look better because it's '88.
http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._6002874_n.jpg

Also got a new instrument cluster bezel, because it looked better than the one I had.
http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._4186774_n.jpg

Last, a set of Heartbeat of America floormats. Not perfect, but I like them.
