Re: Muncie rebuild

All of the internal parts and gears are available through aftermarket. you will need to check all the casting numbers to properly ID your trans , a real muncie had 3 different gear ratios and are usually called a M20, M21, and M22 (aka the rockcrusher). not all 4 speeds are muncies so make sure you properly ID it or have a transmission shop ID and order the parts. I have seen rebuild DVDs and books on ebay and other websites if you want to do it yourself. Enjoy !

Welcome from So Arizona !

Is 1st the only gear that does not work?
Are you sure it is not the linkage or the clutch or the driveshaft or rear end, or axle?

If first is not working it may have broke something isside and by starting and letting out the clutch you may do MUCH more damage with broken parts getting caught between the cluster gear and another gear.

I would stop and remove the trans and take the sidecover off and inspect the gears by rotating the input shaft. You will be able to see what is damaged
