'06 Crew Cab Build

Well, I dropped the truck off at the body shop so I figure it's time to start showing ya'll my upgrades. Here's some history. A couple months ago I bought a Silverado crew cab to carry around my two kids. I had an extended cab '91 silverado I was working on but with the birth of my son two car seats just wasn't going to work. I found this truck and sold the '91. It's an LT3 with 90,000 miles on it. It runs great and the interior is almost perfect. The body had some damage but nothing too bad.

Plans for it for now are:
Denali handles inside and out
Painted bed caps
SS tailgate spoiler
Painted aftermarket front air dam
Debadge and remove side trim
Fix the damage
2 or 3/4 drop
20" Torque Thrusts with grey centers

This is the way a bought it:

Took the toolbox off, got a bed cover, tinted the front windows and started collecting parts:

Here is the damage. Kind of random but nothing major. The rear passenger door has some pretty bad scratches and dings also:

Re: '06 Crew Cab Build

So this weekend I got the truck ready for the body shop.

Removed the bed rails and tailgate cap. Why GM put all these holes in the bed rails I'll never understand:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=13542

Test fitted the new bed rails and SS cap:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=13539

Removed some of the side trim and all of the badges. Also test fitted the new air dam but didn't get pictures of it. This is what the truck looked like when I took it to the body shop:

I'm supposed to get the truck back by the end of the week. I'll remove the rest of the trim and start installing everything then. I'll have to save up some more cash and do the drop and buy tires for the 20's later. I'm pretty excited to make this thing mine. I can't leave anything alone!

Got the truck back today and it looks great! Needs another polishing session but I'll take care of that when I get all the parts on. I planned on doing the whole truck soon anyway. I'll be working to get the parts mounted as soon as I can. Pics to come.

Time to start thinking about a lowering kit and tires. I'm excited! :metal:

Where did you get the smooth bed rails?
Waiting for more pics!

Re: '06 Crew Cab Build

From Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_W0QQ...KQ3aMEWNXQ3aIT

They aren't really smooth as far as the finish goes. They have a light texture to them. I think they could be sanded smooth but the body shop didn't really want to do it and I didn't want to pay them the labor so they sanded down the texture a little and painted. I think they look pretty good! I'm going to add a lot of extra tape when i install them to help with future warping. Hopefully they work well.

I'll try and get some pics soon.

I'm onboard for the journey! I have a 2004 that I bought new that is begging for a little more customization than the NNBS 20's that are on it. The only thing wrong with mine though is it's Black and impossible to keep clean. I've always liked the color that yours is... I might just have to repaint mine.

smbrouss70 - Funny... I wanted a black one but couldn't find one. I actually passed this truck up for a time because I didn't like the color in pictures. Now that I have it I am really loving the color.

Here are some teaser pics. Haven't been able to get much done.

Where did you get that air dam? That looks way better than the stock one, but not over the top like the SS front bumper.

Look under the ABS link. If you order, call them and you might get a better price. I did. It does look a lot better. I wish the fit was a little better on the sides of the bumper. I think someone over finished the S curve area but overall I'm happy. It bolted up easily at all the factory mounting points. Just have to get rid of the tow hook surrounds and remove the fog lights.

Re: '06 Crew Cab Build

Got some more done this weekend. Slow but steady.

Put on the SS tailgate cap and the painted bed caps.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=13590
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=13589

Installed Escalade outside door handles removed the body side molding on the drivers side.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=13587

Installed black chrome inner door handles and Fat Mat on the drivers side.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=13585
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/p...ictureid=13586

Still need to install the handles and Fat Mat on the passenger side, remove the trim, change the tailgate handle, and reinstall the bed cover. Then it's getting a good polishing and wax.

Re: '06 Crew Cab Build

Ordered a McGauphys 2/4 drop kit today. :metal:

Now I need to find some good shocks and tires for the 20's. Any suggestions?

Re: '06 Crew Cab Build

Haven't forgotten about this thread. Hang with me guys and I'll have some updates soon I hope.

I got the truck back together and did a quick hand polish and wax before a trip. Need to get some more pics of it.

I have a McGaughy's 2/4 drop, Belltech shocks, and a set of 20" Torque Thrust with Goodyear GT II tires out in the garage waiting to be put on. All that may be on hold a little longer because I found a spot that the body shop sanded through to the primer and then cleared over it. I'm going back tomorrow to see what they will do to fix it. I'm pretty pissed. I paid good money for all the paint work hoping to get quality work and the job was pretty poor. It seems harder to find quality work anymore it seems.

Ready to have this stuff done. Updates to come!

Re: '06 Crew Cab Build

Yeah, that would piss me off too. Good luck with getting it fixed.

Re: '06 Crew Cab Build

Alot of people run 275/45-20 tires on those oem GM 20" wheels.
A 265/50-20 matches the tire height of the factory 17" tires,... but I'm not sure how well they will work with the drop.
I'll be watching your thread.

Re: '06 Crew Cab Build

Body shop is going to blow in the cab corner where the problem is next week.

I did some asking and searching on another truck forum and figured out that 275/45-20 is the biggest I can go with the drop so that's what I got. So you are exactly right lolife99. They are also very close to the factory 17" height. This will be nice as far as the speedometer is concerned.

Wheels are on! Went with Goodyear GT2 275/45-20. Sorry for the bad cell phone pic. Still waiting for the body shop to fix my paint. Should be lowered soon.

Thanks Lolife! I'm liking it also. Once the fender to tire gap is smaller I'll be really happy. Get's lowered Thursday. Letting someone else do it this time. Guess I'm getting old or lazy!

Looks sweet, you should have them paint the mirrors man.

Do you have any pics looking down the side?
I'd like to see how the new wheels tuck.

I'm not sure what I'm doing with the mirrors. I may just paint the caps. I don't really want to take the mirrors apart since they are power fold, turn signal, etc. They would look good painted.

I don't but I can get you some. They tuck pretty decent. I got the +30 offset instead of the +19 to get them to tuck.
