$$$$$$$$$$$Lots Of Them

My wife has been wanting me to tally up all my receipts for everything Ive done and bought for my truck for insurance value since purchased and toward the restoration so I finally did it last night. I think I got a little carried away somewhere but Im going to have a very nice daily driver soon. I started out with a $2900 beater truck that I drove for almost 2 years and started buying parts about a year a go. Including the purchase price of the truck and all receipts thus far Im in at $9500 but have most all the parts and half the Bodyshop fees covered. It looks like when finished Im looking at $13,500 to $14,000 for a frame off restomod 72 short fleetside 2 wheel drive new truck. And I have bought everything as I could ,no debt. What do ya'll think about the amount spent ? I know I could have probably bought one done for less but I would have no idea how it was done or by whom and I could not have specified what I wanted such as color ,buddybuckets ,sliding back glass ,radio delete ,etc. What you guys think. I dont care about resale value as it will not be for sale anyway ,this truck is being done my way.

I think if you end up with 13500-14000 total in a frame off short fleet truck with buddy buckets and nice paint....you'll be doing well and be able to get your money back out of it if you did sell it....

Re: $$$$$$$$$$$Lots Of Them

Insure it for $20,000 as your time has value and there are other frame offs going for that kind of money.

Actually my wife was surprised it came in that low ,her 72 Malibu convertible after all was said and done was close to $40,000 so she is very happy with the truck amount. Now I just need to find someone that will insure it as a daily driver .Thanks for the replies thus far.

Guys ,My wife is the best woman a guy could want .She is a certified old car and truck nut just like me and is actually responsible for me starting the restoration when I did. I sold her 68 Chevelle project car and accumulated parts and she wanted me to use the money plus more to do my truck. She wont let me sell any of the others just yet .

I'll back up other's comments. I am over that figure and haven't even started body work yet. I'd like to see what you have done while keeping costs so "low"

These machines are freaking time/money sucks. I hate the thing and love it all at the same time.

It isnt much to look at right now as its in the bodyshop in piles and pieces .I have a good many parts in my shop and my living room and my upstairs so its just a bunch of parts at this time but I have almost everything needed to finish it. Just waiting for the bodyshop to jump on it and get it done .

I tallied my last build and am doing the same with my current build. The biggest thing I got out of it was the resale power. I was able to give the buyer all my receipts, along with the itemized list of costs with part numbers, suppliers, etc.

I've redone mine twice, I kept reciepts just the last time. I hate to think of the amount that I have spent on my truck. I will never sell it that is for sure.

Re: $$$$$$$$$$$Lots Of Them

The last time I figured mine up I smoked the calculator!
I really did. I was using a little one I found here at the house and while I was adding the stuff up a little puff of smoke came out of it and it was done. I took that as a sign and have never figured it up. I would guest-a-mate around $25,000.00. That is a little low more than likely but would be in the ballpark.

John,,,, You saw my 68 last weekend (Thanks again for the bumper) and your post got
me to thinking, So i added up my reciepts and right now i'm setting at 8,612.00, So your doing great with yours.

I've also got the same issue for insurance as i drive mine most everyday and the present carrier charges a ton for a rider on it. Would be interested in what you find.

Did you find a buyer for that tail gate, it's worth more than what your asking?

flashed 09-08-2011 12:20 PM

Re: $$$$$$$$$$$Lots Of Them

Im glad you could use the bumper and it was nice meeting you guys and seeing another cool truck .Its nice to know some of my parts will be recycled on someones trucks .I still have the tailgate so it may end up as shop wall art if I can find an empty spot. I will try to look you up when Im in your area again.

My Blazer is still not finished. I keep all my receipts after every purchase. I refuse to do any adding at this point. I know what I spend when I spend it but dont even what to think about the past purchases. I know I'll only feel guilty If I add everything up now. I figure I'll add everything up when the project is done. After I drive it for the first time and get that great feeling I can say it's worth whatever total amount I spent.

I started with a 1967 short box ($500) & ended up with a 1967 long box that we finished with alot of classic parts. P/S,PDL,P/Seat,CCP Drop kit = 1" front & 4" in rear,Boyd wheels, matched bedliner to paint, white lens, reversed tailgate & such. View my personal file to see what we started with. Total $ around 12k. Have it insured for $15k Howard
