Finally Got My Stepside

Hi Everybody,
Wow this is the best site ever. I have been watching for a while and I can't believe the talent and wisdom here this is going to be so helpful. Ok here is my story. My first vehicle was a 1977 chevy stepside by choice but I always knew that someday I would get the earlier body style. So about 30 years later I finally bought 1967 stepside. I must say I wish I had more of a budget for this project but the family comes first so this will be a slow build. OK here are some details. Rebuilt 350 Goodwrench engine, rebuilt 350 transmission with B&M shifter, disk brakes in the front, power steering, 12 bolt rearend. Front clip not real bad, Bed not real bad. the cab has more rust than I want to deal with. I got real lucky a few days after buying the truck I found a rust free cab with doors and glass on Craigslist close to home so I bought it. I am dealing with the DMV right now on swapping the cab out. Thanks in advance I will keep you guys posted on my progress. |

Hi Everyone,
Update - I went to DMV twice and they made me get a Statement of Facts from the previous owner of the cab so I did that. They told me now I would have to go to the CHP office next so I did that. The officer that handles Vin numbers was not in so they gave me his card to call him so I did that. I left a message and he call me back about a week later and left me a message to call him back. Ive been busy so I have not made much progress on getting the paper work done on the cab swap. The good news is that I sold a dirt bike and I was able to buy some truck parts. First I found a 67 hood that is a lot better than the one I have. The guy that I bought the hood from told me about a complete bed that was for sale so I was able to get that as well. Again the bed is a lot better than the one I have. OK I think I done buying sheet metal. I guess my next step is to start taking the truck apart. I almost forgot to tell you that when I got the truck it didn't have headlights and now it does. Attachment 864167 Attachment 864168 |
Re: Finally Got My Stepside
Truck looks cool. I see the cab you have on it now has the optional vented rocker panels! HaHa.
Sounds like California makes you jump through some serious hoops to get anything done. Hopefully you'll get that sorted out so you can get that new cab on soon. |
Re: Finally Got My Stepside
i am really liking your truck... you are doing well locating replacement parts..

Re: Finally Got My Stepside
Thanks guys, yeah California takes the fun out of everything like gun laws and truck vin# laws. My kids wrestling season is almost done and then I get my Saturday's back. I can't wait to start taking the truck apart.
Hey that was funny about the vented rockers. It has a vented floor as well. Posted via Mobile Device |

Not much time lately. I did get the rearend out. I also scored a cool glove box on ebay that I really like. I did notice once I got the cab off I had a turbo 400 tranny.

Re: Finally Got My Stepside
Looking good! I don't envy you having to deal with the DMV, but that cab sure seems worth it.

I made some good progress Sunday. Painted the tranny, mounted the cab, installed the sheetmetal to check for alignment. I guess now I will take it apart and start some body work. Let me know what you guys think. I need some encouragement.
