Are Suburbans "wagons"?
To me the answer is most obviously YES!.....
Some "rocket-scientist" at jalopnik.com took on the task of defining station wagons and implies that certain Honda civic hatchbacks are wagons, while burbs aren't (?) http://jalopnik.com/5872562/what-makes-a-wagon-a-wagon |

The Alberta registries seem to think so..

Interesting...never thought about it. Good question.

Re: Are Suburbans "wagons"?
I think that dude on Jalopnik has flawed assumptions.
Personally, I never saw the suburban as a "Station Wagon". I see it more as a truck, or now that the name has been coined, and SUV. I think that it is too big to be a station wagon. That Honda hatch certainly is not a station wagon. I think length of vehicle and rear over hang needs to be considered. I think it is like a famous judge once said "I can't define pornography, but I know it when I see it"....kind of the same thing....I can't define a station wagon, but I know one when I see one. Tim |
Re: Are Suburbans "wagons"?
My Dad teases me that my 02 Suburban is a minivan since he knows I'll never buy a minivan. It didn't really help my case when I told him that the 68 Burb I just got is a 3 door, He's like, "Oh! kinda like a minivan!"

Re: Are Suburbans "wagons"?
when I bought my '72 from Bakersfield, the Cali tag said "wagon"

Re: Are Suburbans "wagons"?
There is a site called "Station Wagon Forums' and this topic came up recently on the boards and the general consensus was that a station wagon had to be on a car frame. I feel my 4x2 Tahoe is a modern Sation Wagon but most people look at it as an SUV.

Re: Are Suburbans "wagons"?
I've seen them defined as a "truck wagon".

Re: Are Suburbans "wagons"?
In 1968 California DMV - Yes.
My title describes my 1968 burb as an "SW" Always hated the term "SUV"... Nothing sporty about my burban, nor any other one out there IMO. Save that term for Honda Ridglines and the like. |
Re: Are Suburbans "wagons"?
I just like to call my 72 Suburban a truck that holds my family.

Re: Are Suburbans "wagons"?
they were station wagons before the hondas were

Re: Are Suburbans "wagons"?
The Definition "SUV" is a fairly recent definition that was created to circumvent the percieved negative stigma of driving a wagon. Some states still dont use the SUV designation.

Re: Are Suburbans "wagons"?
Bought my 72 Suburban new in 1971, Chevrolet showed them in a Station Wagon Brochure as well as a Truck sales brochure. Mine has been registerd as Passenger car, Truck, and Farm Truck over these last 40 years?
This is like the ongoing Suburban or Carryall question Still have the suburban and the brochures............. |
