PHOTO WANTED - Stock Throttle Linkage

Hey everyone,

I know this has probably been discussed before, but I wasn't able to find exactly what I needed with the search function..

I need a picture of a stock throttle linkage setup... preferably a V8. I just installed a 327 in my '56 stepside. The PO installed some piece of junk aftermarket linkage that was good for nothing. I purchased a new V8 stock linkage and am hoping to be able to use that... problem is that I cannot seem to figure out how it all mounts up. Can someone provide a picture or at least point me in the right direction? Thanks!

Here is mine, I do not run a pedal on the inside. I made my own rod between the linkage and carb. The HEI made it interesting but doable!

I appreciate the responses, guys. The linkages being posted are extremely similar to the setup that the PO did. The thing is that I would really like to retain the stock pedal by using the stock linkage. The one like this:

Re: PHOTO WANTED - Stock Throttle Linkage

In photo:

Black rod in RH rear extends through floorboard and seats in matching socket in pedal. Flat bellcrank lever attached to black rod extends up firewall behind LH valve cover. Bracket with two holes bolts to firewall. Long rod extends forward from bellcrank to attach to LH side of carb. If I can make ASCII art work...

Code:

Carb
------------        F
            \      I
            _\__  R
            |_\_|  E
                \  W
                \__A__ \
                    L  \ Pedal
                      L  \

I can get a picture of the bellcrank, bracket, and bellcrank to pedal rod but I removed the carb and long rod years ago to connect to the efi throttle bodies. What Orrie and Ogre have posted is different and doesn't have the short rod from bellcrank to pedal. Maybe those units are from six cylinder trucks? I seem to remember the bellcrank is different on the V8 truck so maybe that rod isn't used, either. Or maybe it's a four eyes thing and the 55-57 trucks were different.

Attached is the diagram from the v8 rpo in the FAM. 55-57 had this type. 58thru the 60 had the one like I posted. It came out of a factory V-8 62 c20. As I said I do not use the pedal that pivoted at the floor and snapped into the ball on the end of the shaft because I wanted to keep the floor clear. In my opinion the later one is simpler and cleaner, but if you want absolute stock start looking. If you do not want to use stock another option is to use the mid 70's truck style that bolts to the fire wall from the inside and uses a pull cable thru the fire wall. It also keeps the floor clear.

where did you get all your parts from to build the throttle linkage?
I wanna start getting this thing on the road as soon as I can and this is a little hick-up I gotta get done.

Your linkage looks like one for an AD truck - not a TF

FWIW, after I wired the HEI I had to modifiy the firewall end of the throttle rod.

Pics of stock V8 throttle linkage in my 55.2 3100. Gas pedal is from '57, I think, and PO used cable instead of rod to hook up carb, it works so I haven't changed it out yet.... "Don't fix what aint broken"

Will, looking at the pic of the linkage you have, the rod that the pedal presses on looks like it is nearly straight to the bar that the carb rod attaches to. As you cn see on mine, there needs to be a angle between the two for the linkage to work. My assembley is welded together, can your rod be rotated?

I bought the same linkage you did, but haven't hooked it up yet. I did notice there is two factory holes on the firewall that match up with the plate that is centered on the linkage. My truck was originally a 6 cylinder. From what I can tell you bolt or screw the plate to the firewall and the short rod sticks through the original hole under the pedal.

I think you have what capnduane showed minus a piece or two. That works with a rod going though the firewall which creates a nice air leak when the boot around it gets worn. Most Task Force trucks I have seen run the other setup that the guys showed which may actually be a six cylinder setup but seals the firewall quite well. And it works good too.

If this is addressed to me, I do not use a pedal. I bent (and I think cut off a little) of the inside arm to get it where it felt right for me. The outside part if a pressed, maybe spot welded, fit to the shaft, never had to rotate it, I make the linkage from the arm to the carb adjustable so idle keeps the inside lever as low as possible while allowing WOT. What you are showing is from something else, I sold both the stock 74 throttles from my donor trucks. They are similar, bolt to the firewall with cable pull. If you look at the domed part of the firewall there is a recess for the V-8 throttle linkage. Mine actually came off of a 62 truck they are all similar thru 66.

OrrieG, I was adressing Will, the OP of this thread. The throttle linkage he posted a pic of is very nearly the same as the one in my truck.

I have used a couple of those original type kits. It is confuseing because the way it comes is not the way it fits in. You have to take it apart & figure it out. It fits & works real good once you get it right.

Hello ChevroletWT. My truck has the same linkage as what you posted. Stock gas pedal. The only part that goes through the floor is the short arm that pops into the back of the pedal. Its hard to see in the first photo but you can see where it goes through the floor. Hope that helps.
