Is My Dash cut?
3 Attachment(s)
I've had the truck for over 10 years now and the C/D player croaked. Can anyone tell if my dash has been cut from this picture of the croaked C/D that is in it now. I bought this Sony (in 2009 so no more warranty already) to replace the old one. I'm hoping it will be an R & R deal when I put the Sony in. I just ordered one of those Polished Aluminum surround plates from Mahanian for the truck.

Yes. only way to get one of those single DIN radios in was to cut it. Your new install should be a breeze now.

I really dont know the technical meaning for the word, but the radio you have is whats know as a single DIN it should measure 2"x7" a double DIN radio is 4"x7" . Some gm and chryslers used a DIN-1/2
here is a Double DIN http://i571.photobucket.com/albums/s...k/DSCF7566.jpg |
Re: Is My Dash cut?
Here is the explanation I found for DIN.....don't know if it's fact or not but it sounds good to me. :)
DIN refers to a standardized radio/stereo size for vehicles (large enough to accept a CD). 1 DIN is the standard DIN specification. 2 DIN or double DIN refers to units that are twice as high as the standard DIN, half DIN is half high as 1 DIN. International standard ISO 7736 defines a standard size for car audio head units. The standard was originally established by the German standards body Deutsches Institut fur Normung, and is therefore commonly referred to as the "DIN car radio size". It was adopted as an international standard in 1984. |

FWIW...
You will LOVE having a USB port on the new unit! I recently put a Kenwood unit in my K20 and liked it so much, I put another one in my CST. It's cool to have so much music stored on a tiny flash drive. |
