Removing tie rod
 

I'm trying to remove my tie rod. I thought I should just have to take the castle nuts and cotter pin out, and it pop out but no luck. I noticed there is a bleeder valve on the ends would I need to bleed that? Here is a pic

thats not a bleeder valve...Its a zerk fitting. use a tie rod separator with a air gun or BFH.

Bfh?what is a zerkfitting? I went to part source and got the ball joint separator tool , hopefully that works

A zerk fitting is for a grease gun chuck to lube the joint.
Some times you can get lucky and hit the stud end of the tie-rod with a large hammer (BFH). Do this with the nut on the threads, just loose.
Other wise you will need a "pickle fork" or tie-rod separator tool to remove the tie-rod stud from the tapper.

Aww bfh duh, I got the tie rod separator so ill give those a try other wise ill grab a mini sledge and have at her

Are you removing the tie-rod to replace it? Or for some other reason?
If you separate it with a "pickle fork" type tool, it will destroy the boot....then you will be back here asking where you can buy the boot.

The best way to separate it is to loosen the castle nut (not remove) then apply some pressure against the tie-rod with a pry bar and smack the housing itself right next to the the tapered stud. Do not hit the stud itself or the nut, you will just damage the threads.

I'm during a full Reno so I'm taking it off to sand and powder coat. I guess I'll try finess first before prying. Partsource has another pry kit that is more like I clamp with a bolt in the middle. It's supposed to slowly push the bolt up. Think that's a better option then the prong pry kit

if you're doing a reno on it just pound it out... and replace it.. they are cheap.

And make sure your wearing safety glasses when hammering on it just in case something chips and flys off.
