10 lug trucks?

1 Attachment(s)
Brought this 72 GMC home awhile back. I look around on here for a thread about these 10 lug trucks but couldn't find anything. I'm just mainly looking for any info about these things. Are they C-30s or 40s or what? What fender emblems should it have and so on. Any info would be great.

Had one of those a few years back that I parted out. Had 19.5 split rims a wheel base of 157 and a GVW rating of 14k on the pillar tag

According to GM's VIN card: http://service.gm.com/dealerworld/vi.../vincard72.pdf

That decodes to a GMC C30 "chassis cab" truck - one ton chassis, standard pickup cab, no bed.

too much stuff 10-03-2013 05:47 PM

Re: 10 lug trucks?

I think your emblem would be GMC
3500 V-eight

Re: 10 lug trucks?

This is all great. Thanks guys. I figured it was basically a 1 ton with a bigger rear and higher GVWR. Time to look for fender emblems. So it looks like the GMC emblems are glued on, is that correct?

I opened this thinking it was a Clown wheel thread, it's just a real truck. I am very dissappointed.

Re: 10 lug trucks?

Wheels that are way too big for the vehicle they are on making the vehicle look like it belongs to circus clown, when I see them I expect 20 clowns to pile out because the frame is dragging but usually it is only one or two clowns.

Those are great trucks. Good choice for a Roll Back with the Heavy GVW.

I keep thinking I need to sell it but I like thats its sorts unusual. I all ready have a ramp truck so I may still. Maybe I should look for a later model roll back thats clapped out and rob the bed.

Re: 10 lug trucks?

I think this would be compared to the c truck of the 88-98 model run body style when during that run[ don't recall the years right off hand] they had a 3500 HD. It carried 19.5 inch wheels and some other heavier stuff than the regular C3500. A lot of the suspension is either the same or close to that of the Motor home chassis they used in the P30 vans. I bought a motor home a year or so back at a flood sale and it had a 454 t400 and 7 new [who buys a new spare?] 19.5 tires on rims that had sims on them and an old style tilt with no key to fit the 67-72 truck, and was gonna use that stuff on a C40-50-60- daully project I had planned, but never got around to. Anyways back to you what I was getting at is maybe you could find some wheels and tire off a motor home that might fit your truck and they may fit. It would be worth looking into. Jim

Re: 10 lug trucks?

Actualy I did exactly that. They are stacked next to the pass. side in one of the pictures. I still need two more but a freind of mine just got a moho to scrap with 19.5s on it. I'm buying the 454 and T400 for 100.00 bucks and the tilt for 50.00. I'll just try to talk him out of the wheels.

Put the 19.5's on th efront today, really fills up the wheel wells. Noiw to tackle the rear brakes. Seems like every truck i get needs rear wheel cylinders.

Re: 10 lug trucks?

That's nice. These are still 3500,but with 11,000# axles option. Your SPID says "Single Speed Rear",since it's the medium duty rear. I've never seen one of these with 2spd rear. I wonder if that was possible. I have seen an IH HD 1t tow truck that way. GM made the C40/4500 with the light truck cab in prior years. In these trucks GM offered the heavy axle upgrade on 30/3500s and made a 40/4500 medium duty. I'm not sure after '72. They still made the 40/45 medium duty, but not sure about the axles upgrade on a 30/35. I think they were made for a while into the '70s,then stopped, till the '92 3500HDs

Re: 10 lug trucks?

A two speed axle would definately be cool. I wonder too if that was possible. What do you think of the hydro vac brake system?

special-K 10-15-2013 08:40 AM

Re: 10 lug trucks?

I don't know much about the brakes on these. Parking brake is on the driveshaft, right? The booster is under the floor and a vent is in the floor on the driver side,is all I know...if that's right.

haminator 10-15-2013 11:47 PM

Re: 10 lug trucks?

Yes special K that is correct. I think they generally work good until the hydrovac unit acts up. Thats what Iv'e heard anyway.

Quite popular in some circles and one must admit the fabrication skills
and resources required to build a car like that...and I'm sure the owner
is quite proud of it.

That said, I highly suggest we move back to
enjoying your 10 lug truck thread!
:)
