suspension upgrade question
 

Hi everybody i want to upgrade my suspension on my 1968 chev truck shortbox
i have 3 inch drop spindles and 2 inch drop springs on the front and have a c-notch kit and a 5 inch drop spring i am going to install on the back the front end bumps and squeaks a little on corners the drop springs in the front arent totally tight in there pockets where they fit in the control arms what would you recommend for front suspension upgrades for better ride

Sounds like you went w/a typical front set-up (spindles + springs) so that's good.

What about your alignment?
What shocks?
Any other parts replaced?
Were there any bumps/squeaks prior to the parts swap?

His trying to modify his suspension, lowering his ride. I prefer to improve it and install it with shock absorbers to support the weight and to have a smooth ride. Ive seen lowered c10 using like IF suspension kit. I hope this helps.

Shocks are needed for any suspension; stock or modified but it more than likely already has shocks (unless someone removed them). That kit in your link is a MII swap & not exactly ideal for these trucks considering they are already equipped w/an IFS set-up.

To improve on an already solid foundation.... ECE, Porterbuilt, No Limits, Hotchkis, Global West, CPP, Ride Tech, & Scotts Hot Rods all offer a variety of choices to lower a truck while improving the suspension.

Still waiting to see if the noise was there previous to the spindle/spring swap. Also, what company provided the '2" drop springs?

CPP drop springs 2 inch the porterbuilt drop member is that a bolt in suspension modification for the 1967-72 chev trucks

That is a"conversion" kit designed to remove the solid front axle and leaf springs, putting a coil spring/control arm set-up in it's place....not needed in a '68 model truck.

But the biggest issue that I see with this quote is that shock absorbers DO NOT support the weight of the vehicle. The SPRINGS do that. The shocks control the natural tendency of the springs to "bounce" after hitting a bump. The shocks are not mounted well enough to actually hold the vehicle up, which is why major fabrication is necessary to use "coil-over" shocks. They combine the spring and shock into one unit, but that is a custom system

The 'Touring' Dropmember is bolt-in. The 'Extreme' version is bolt in but requires some welding for the R&P notches @ the frame rail. Either one is definitely a much better choice vs. a MII set-up.
