Parking brake parts and advice.

Alright, I have had a dilemma for a while with my parking brake. I have the style that comes up next to the stick and the brake drum and assembly is coming off of the tailshaft housing on my transmission. My issue is is finding parts for it because I drive for a while the drum starts catching on the brake band when it's fully released. Anyone know of anyone who has extra parts or is a vendor to this particular area of the trucks?

can you post a pic of part in question. i have a 65 and they had 2 versions so yours may need to be identified first then some members can help solve this issue, gotta have them working brakes!!!!

This is the style. Unfortunately I don't have a pic of the underside of the truck with the assembly.

looks like a bus brake, havent seen that one before. if the underside is the same as most then its just a simple handle. anyway ima look at some of my books a try and help, if you can get the underside that would help even more...

Is your truck a 3/4 ton, do you have a round housing on the back of the transmission that has a band brake on the transmission. Most 1/2 tons have a lever assembly on the transmission crossmember that then engages via cables the rear brakes, Yours appears to be different than the normal 1/2 ton park brake.

There should be some type of return spring on the band or is it just adjusted too tight?

My Dad drove for the city in the 70s. They had Dodge dump trucks he would complain of those style parking brakes catching fire on them.

Yes I have a 3/4 ton truck. It is a round housing drum.

Yeah I need to probably re adjust mine but I know that the drum is warped. I need a brake shoe for it because mine seems to be adjusted all the way when it's set it's tight, but when St I'll be parked on a hill and it will roll a little until I h old it all the way back so I use the reverse gear brake.

Interesting set up D Rock...I've never really seen that before. I did drive a 65 GMC 1 ton military truck that had a similar brake...except the handle was on the left side of the stick. Don't much remember what the underneath looked like...been almost two years since I seen that ol GMC. Anyhoo hope you get that fixed!

That's the style on my 66 C30, I got a replacement from Tony at 4-5-6 Chevy trucks. I also have a local buddy/ pro mechanic that says he can get some.

Same here. I rebuilt the band using friction material from McMaster-Carr. Also, the 1963 shop service manual does a good job covering the adjustment.Attachment 1545280

I used brake and clutch lining rivets bought online from Hanson Rivet. Here's a site that'll give you an idea of what it takes to re-line the band brake.
