Crew cab dually lowering questions
 

This is the first 2wd truck I have owned. I would like to lower it some, as the raked out look is not the most appealing look for pounding the pavement. This truck will still be used as a truck, towing mostly with an occasional large cast iron machine in the bed.

No notches, no taking springs out, I don't want to get into the expense of air ride, at least I don't think I do.

Seems a 3/4 would take care of the look, I have stock size tires that are new and do not want to change those either.

The truck is a 1978 crew cab, camper special with a big block.

A few pointers in the direction to look would be much appreciated.

Drop Spindles for the front, and for the rear I think you'll have to re-arch the springs.

Drop spindles give a 3 inch drop.

The rear gets tricky because you likely have about a 3 inch pack on the back. My C20 CS had a stack a of leaves about 4 inches thick. Which with a flip kits would of been at least 8 inches of drop.

That is why I say re-arch the spring. this way you can trim it with a drop shackle for another 2 inches if necessary.

You could play around with the mounting location of the stock leaf hangers or do a combination of sorts on replaceing the front hangers or rear shackles w/drop parts.

I would strongly advise re-thinking the no air philosophy. Better ride all the time w/no loss in capacity when loaded. A small AOL (air over leaf) set-up would allow removing some of the leafs which would help ride quality & typically aren't too pricey...

I hated the way my 74swb rode w/the HD leaf option in comparison to my 68swb w/truck arms & bags. When I got the dually, more than 1 person bragged they ride great because of the longer wheel base & extra weight.... BS.

If I wasn't commited to moderate lowering, I would definitely remove leafs to get better ride quality & then the simple AOL set-up will easily adjust for when the additional capacity is required. That's a win/win in my book. I dropped mine about the equivalent of a flip kit w/dropped shackles so I swapped to a 4-bar & bags. It already compresses much better just doing comparative 'bounce' tests (empty w/4-bar & bags vs empty w/leafs pack). I look forward to driving it now....

See, I don't mind the ride one bit, but I am used to 3/4 and one ton 4x4 vehicles.

If I wanted something to ride like a car, well I would never own a car.

Belltech's website shows it to fit 75-91 models.

I can't speak for fitment beyond what they say works. I haven't installed one myself.

This seems like the only viable way to go without having to preform some irreversible surgery. Axle flip kit requires a frame notch and it looks like the rear pumpkin will hit the bottom of the bed and I loose the sway bar and some leafs.

Now to find an old school headache rack and to put the original hubcaps I just scored on it. Plus the rest of the interior stuff. This thing is almost as bad as a boat.
