How many were made ?

Yes I did search this but only found conversions. But I'm looking at getting back into the chevy game with a 90 suburban 3/4 ton 4 speed 4x4. How many 4 speed burbs were made? I have never seen one

Re: How many were made ?

I've only seen a couple and they were online. It might be easier to find a clean 3/4 ton w/auto and swap the manual in. There's also a thread here where member DirtyLarry swapped a NV4500 in place of his SM465 you could reference to swap a late model 5-speed in.

Not many and have only ever seen one in person. It just wasn't a valued option then.

This occurs to me as an ideal question for Mr. Keith Seymore...I PMed him this thread. ;)

I looked at one ex forestry truck. Body was alright not major rusty but dented up on the barn doors. And the engine was smoking pretty bad. I Dont Know if it would be a top end or bottom end rebuild but I Dont Know if I want to get into that. I put it in 4 low and low on the trans and man 3500rpm truck barely moved. I'm imagining the rear gears would be 410s which would make it like something 72.3:1 final drive in low low. It looked like a 10 bolt front axle. Idont really know about chevy front axles. I know the Dana's and the 14 rear. It was a 14 but a non float axle. He was asking 1600.

Yeah, I have the same 70+:1 crawl ratio in my '83, it's nice. If it was new enough to have the 9.5" 14 bolt (the semi floater) then it had a GM 10 bolt front axle, it succeeded the Dana 44, the two have several interchangeable parts.

Re: How many were made ?

I've never seen a later Suburban 4spd in person. I did have a '90 Blazer w/4spd and that was a rare thing, too. I ordered my '92 K3500 with a 5spd and have had more people comment that they didn't realize manual transmissions were still offered. It's about to that point now. I believe the Dodges are the only ones available w/manual trans now. Probably if they ever come up with a good automatic Dodge will drop those, too. I remember when a real truck wouldn't consider it a truck if it had an automatic. Times sure have changed.

Re: How many were made ?

I've seen a few over the yrs. and only one was a Silverado. Rest were all base model trucks.
Front diff should be a 10 bolt. Exact same as 1/2 axle. Just 8 lug hubs on it.
14 SF 9.5 sounds right. The 14 FF was 2wd only in 3/4 ton with 454.
Could have 3.73, 4.10 or 4.56 but 4.56 are rare!
Interesting thing:
For '89-'91 V-Blazers, you could only get a 350/700R4 in California.
No 350/4 spd manual and no diesel at all was offered in here.
And in Suburbans only 3/4t 2wd or 4wd got diesels for CA.
And only 1/2t 4wd was offered 4 spd manual while 3/4t 2wd & 4wd could have be had with 4 spd manual and then only with small block.
Pretty sure it was GVW vs EPA for California.

Yours is one of the two I mentioned I've seen, the other is DirtyLarry's.

My landlord has a 89 with a 465/208. They are hard to find.
