plugs and plug wires
I recently picked up a 2011 LT 4x4 with a 5.3 and 7900 miles on it. would there be any advantage to switching out the sparkplugs and plug wires to a diamond fire type plug and getting a set of bigger plugwires? ie MSD or summit brand. or is it a waste of money?

Re: plugs and plug wires
Yes, that would be a waste in my opinion. A tune up isn't due until 100k and ac delco iridium plugs and wires work best.
The ignition system on these trucks is so good, you will not notice any kind of difference with aftermarket. |
Re: plugs and plug wires
Every person for their own. MSD wires carry less resistance than most factory wires and as for the plugs, I put a new set of iridium tipped plugs in my 11 5.3 at 70,000 miles. Along with the aftermarket tune, it would be hard to say that the difference was that noticeable, but I like it.

Re: plugs and plug wires
Non-OE style plugs (e3' etc.) will have an impact on how it runs. Just not the way you want it to. But on the good side, 5.3 coils are easy to replace
The only reason to upgrade to low resistance wires, fancy plugs, or high power coils is if you have added boost. Otherwise GM has nailed down the ignition system on these and "Joe-Blow" can't make it any better |
Re: plugs and plug wires
cool thanks. in otherwords leave it alone.
