Re: 1971 2wd to duramax tt 4x4 build thread

I love the cc build. I was going to build one myself out of this truck when I find all the parts to build the cab. I seen the 1 tone frame and decided to get one myself. I got it last night 280 miles round trip. Its all most a bare frame now. I know Im going to need to shorten it so I was thinking of doing that in the kick up part. It does two things. 1 shorten frame 2 lower rear section. Any thoughts?

Thanks

This is how I was going to do my frame in the kickup portion, still debating. You have to drop the frame is the big idea. I plan to cut the remaining from the back portion of the frame to shorten it up and just move the spring perches. Keep me posted on the wiring. I am dreading that portion. Trevor

Trevor the Dmax wiring is not that hard. Orange all goes to batt pinks all go to key on crank. purple as usual is starter the rest is sender wires and some horse crap not really neded for stand allone. I did this before in my Blazer allready. One sugg is to use the entire harness as I did on MaxxBlaze. the hardest part was putting Diodes into the wiring graft for the ignition switch. I used the factory 72 chev switch.

What did you run for gauges in maxxblaze? I plan on running aftermarket gauges in this and a 72 factory column.
Another idea i had was keeping the factory cab n chassis the way it is to clear the allison wihout a body lift and just lowering the bed cross rails. Just taking what i need off from the rear of the frame. Trevor

I shoved in the factory dmax guages and planned on building my own I qiut that idea time is to short here ya go have fun http://s604.photobucket.com/user/Mad...?sort=3&page=1
a three inch body lift just clears everything just right. other than that your gonna need to move eng fwd and mod trans tunnle 3 inches up over a 4x4 one. remove the front x member and make your own. make your own eng x member.

I know you've been working on yours in the nice weather out there. Been fighting single digit lows and 20 degree highs here.

Re: 1971 2wd to duramax tt 4x4 build thread

I have been thinking about leaving the angle in my frame since it's 1 1/2" roughly taller in the rear than a normal pickup. This means I could get by with a 1 1/2 body lift from the cab forward to clear the Allison. The frame rails on the cab and chassis frame are 2" taller than normal, thus dropping the crossmembers 2" lower than a normal 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton. So you wouldn't need near the 3" body lift. Trevor

Re: 1971 2wd to duramax tt 4x4 build thread

Well heres what I did on frame cut. I brought it down 2 inches if I remember right and ended up taking out 28.250 from behind rear cab mount. When I measure the 1/2 ton frame I came up with the back section behind the hump was 4 7/8 above the middle section. so I just tried to get a happy med between rear leafs needing to be 14 inches lift and 3 inches body lift under bed. I fabed new cab stands from 4x4 tube and raised them 3 inches. after all that crap my cab is about 1 inch low in rear w urethane mounts and bed is 1 inch to tall above that. W T F ???? so anywho im sorting that one out this weekend. my 11 inch rear springs are 4 inches short due to the front spring perch placement. I am fabing them to set eye under frame height bout 1.5 to 2 inches below frame. I have pix on my phone ill load them this weekend. me and my buddy went in sat morning bout 11 am and by 2 am that night we had a 1 ton2wd frame under the old body and set on new axles
:waah:
Oh and I have about 1/2 at worst clearance on trans to body. I have low floor too. Im glad w that. the front rad core support I advise you to use the duramax and move the holes in it for mounts, fab new frame mounts and no need for 3 inch lift it sits perfectly on the energy thin bushing. I just fabbed out of alum 2" angle a mount from support to fender and fabbed some mounting from facoty lights that I took the old truck rad core support and cut it w light buckets. I think u can fig thsat out, ill get u pix if not found in maxblaze crap

I know we kinda stalled out. Sorry guys Its out back in mothballs atm. I had to move my business and do a TONNNNN of **** to get it going. Im still in recovery mode from that. Im finishing my 07 suburbans twin turbo LBZ swap . been 3 years building that engine. Im thinking I should just buy the crewcab prebuilt and then bring it home and mount it paint it and BOOM finish it. I am hoping to get back on it later this year. I got myself into a mess with a 69 camaro street fighter was supposed to be a simle deal turned into a complete reskin of the car. Ill Be back on this soon. I still can answer qs at Durramax@yahoo.com

OMG 2014? FFS I didn think its been that damed long. **** I need to get on this ****.

This truck is up for sale as is. I dont have time to finish it. The engine is a LB7 TT Garret GT45 making 505 rwhp and 1109 rwtq It has a suncoast V with 6 speed ug Fass 150 150.. its a X273 ford tcase w kodiac shift cam and 243xhd shift encoder. 4wd works by the dash switch as it should. I have a 78 dana 60 kingpin driver drop high pinion front axle with functioning ABS. 97 or newer I forget brakes on it. 456 gears brand new front and back AAM 11.5 rear from dmax. frame is prety much done. engine mounts are done. Needs to be finisheed. Wiring I would thin out again and get rid of some of it but its all pulled out of my 12 second blazer that ran this actual setup. Tilt steering column. and I have a suburban cab w doors if you feel froggy. 405-824-8367 Text is best Ken
