Dad bought a 46/47...compatiable years and catalogs?
My dad just bought a 1947 GMC truck. It looks like 1947 was a weird year since they changed body styles quickly, but it looks like a 1946, not a 1948 if that makes sense. An early 47 if you will.
Does this body style have a specific name to make searching easier? If I search 1947 it gives me the later style, so Ive been searching for 1946. What is different, if anything? I'm trying to find him some more info and catalogs/parts to start making some changes, just trying to get some info right now since this style is totally new for us. Wasnt a planned purchase haha, just had to have it! Pics when it arrives, shipping from AZ to MA :sumo: |
Re: Dad bought a 46/47...compatiable years and catalogs?
From what I understand, Chevy changed body styles mid 1947. I watched an episode of American Pickers one time and they found a truck that they called a 47 but it still had the 46 style cab on it.
I think the cab changed slightly however most of the frame stayed unchanged. When I put my IFS on my truck, Justin from Scott's Hot Rods told me that the frames are identical from the radiator back. I think he was right because I used a new rear leaf kit for a 47 from LMC and it bolted right up to the factory holes. I think the new style cabs are wider though. |
