Bench seat question, rods sticking through the vinyl.

I want use a horse blanket cover the bench seat to prevent any further degradation of the exist foam. I noticed that the back of the frame has a support area with metal rods stick through the remaining vinyl. This must have had some kind of coverage when it was new. For the time being I was going to grind smooth the rods to take off the sharp edges. Is this the correct approach?

Thanks!

I didn't see this post until now. I don't think I would do that. You may need those ends to re-attach the springs.... Look on the back to see where they were attached. I will check one of my seats when I go out and see if I can see anything.

Good point! These rods are welded to the tube that runs the length of the back support and the foam is in front. The height of that rod to the post is about .180". If you look closely you can see the weld fillet on the rod to the tube.

Thanks

If that's the case then I can't see why you would need them. I have never seen that happen either. I get the feeling someone screwed up when putting the seat together. Grind away!!!!..:)

I was told it's a good idea to round them off when re-covering the seat.

Update... I haven't tied down the seat cover yet and I will have the seat completely redone when in a year or so. To many another things needed like brakes and transmission repair. I did grind down the rods and it appears to be a nonissue now. Thanks for the help. BTW I did insulate the floor while the seat and tank are out.
