84 C10 Steering pump and box on 73' 350??

4 Attachment(s)
I have a 66 C10 which has a transplanted 73' 350 placed in it by the PO. The heads do not have accessory holes and I was wondering if I can use the power steering pump and box that I pulled from a 84 C10. I know with CaptinFab's bracket I can mount the box, which I plan on buying. And I have read from many post on this forum that it is best to use the matching pump that goes with the gear box in order to keep it simple (for pressure line and return to match up).

From additional research I have come to believe that an 84 C10 used a long water pump. How do I use this setup on a short water pump motor? Can I use one of the pump brackets that hooks up to the motor mount and change the pulley to a short water pump? Surely someone has done this.

What bracket should I use?

Will this pump work with my motor?

Can the pulley be swapped and fix my issue, and if so, what pulley do I use (part number would be great)?

Thanks for any and all responses.

Don't know why the pictures are sideways!

All '73 and up small blocks used a long water pump. You can use that pump, but you will need to change the mounting bracket and pulley to a bracket and pulley for a short water pump. All trucks '72 and earlier and cars '68 and earlier used short water pumps. If you can not find factory brackets and a pulley, there are a couple aftermarket suppliers that make quality parts.

Looks more like a 307 truck motor with that skinny crank pulley. Brothers have brackets that use the two holes beside the timing cover that will mount pump but you may have to get a two groove lower pulley to clear your fan belt.

So, since you saying all sbc from 73 and up used a long water pump, do you think the previous owner put a short water pump on?

Most of the brackets I found that might work are supposed to fit with a pump that has 2 mounting holes in the back side. Mine only has one.

Anybody know of a bracket that will work. What pump did an 84 c10 use?

I agree with dware67, that looks more like a 307 than a 350. Regardless, all small block water pumps are interchangeable.

Like I said, all trucks '73 and up use the long water pump.....that includes '84. Considering how your engine is setup, it would be much simpler to just get a set of power steering pump brackets and pulleys for a small block with a short water pump. I would suggest checking in the '67-'72 classifieds here on the forum and on ebay for the brackets and pulleys.
