1958 Viking 60 Brake Booster?

Hello everyone. I just joined want to introduce myself. I'm digging out the old farm dump truck, a 1958 Viking 60 and digging into the brakes. I know there is a ton of knowledge on this forum so I'm excited to add whatever I can!!!

It appears that the brake booster needs some work. Are there any places out there that sell rebuilt boosters?

Welcome, I too am curently doing brakes on a '58 Viking 60. Just got the fronts put together last night and pulled one drum off the back. Just ordered axle seals. I have heard that Karps, http://www.karpspowerbrake.com/ can do boosters for our old trucks. And don't forget, front left is left had and rear is right hand.

Welcome to the forum! I don't have info on parts for your vintage truck but having lurked around here for several years I know there are plenty of folks that will readily share their knowledge. This is one of the best forums I've ever visited.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Thanks for the images, I've seen some of those before. I'm struggling actually finding replacement parts for these or where I can get a rebuilt one? My dad picked up a new master cylinder, he said those were easy to find and cheap but these Hydroboosters are harder to find.

The chances of finding parts or a rebuilt hydrovac are not that good. They aren't the type of item you can order from a general auto parts store.

They can be rebuilt though. Wheel cylinders can be sleeved also if necessary. A hemmimgs motor news off the magazine rack can be helpful for locating services.

Occasionally you will see a refurbished one float through eBay every now and then. You just have to keep an eye out.

Best option would be to mail that one off and have it gone through. At least you k ow it will fit when you get it back.

Any recommendations on who/where can rebuild these? If I were to mail it off, where would I mail it off too?

I can't personally recommend a place since mine is still working as it should so I left it alone. If I did need the service I would start by calling brake rebuilding specialists in the local area. They sometimes know people that work on the older stuff. A lot of places will even send their work out to some of those places when they get something old that's a bit out of their league.

After that, I open a hemmimgs motor news which I buy every year and call people listed under services for brake parts. I talk to folks and see what they can and can't do. Many times they can pass on additional numbers to you if they can't help.

You can so just take to the computer and search hydrovac rebuilding.

I did the Google thing and found this maybe give em a call.

I spoke to these guys today for the hydro boost unit for my 89. I asked him about the old hydro vac units like your truck uses, he said that he has rebuilt units in stock on the shelf: http://www.alretta.com/
I spoke to the owner, super nice an super knowledgable about this stuff.
