I seem to lack basic understanding of unplugging a plug

Hi
I am trying to troubleshoot wiring to the brake lights. I have this connector above the gas pedal on the firewall that goes to engine compartment and from there goes to the rear of the truck. It looks like a plastic connector going into a rubber cup. I can't figure out how to unplug it. Should this be as simple as pulling the plug? I can't get it to unplug. I would like to unplug it so I can isolate the cab/dash wiring from the wiring that goes from the engine compartment to the back of the truck.

1969 Chevrolet CST/10 Pickup

Thanks
David

looks like someone jammed a square plug into a round hole
wiggle it and unplug it, probably have to use the force on it :D

Yes. It should just pull out. There are no tangs or clips like these later models have. It probably has some corrosion in it. That is likely where your problem is.

Thank you very much. I wanted to reduce the likelihood of breaking something, so I thought I would ask before getting more aggressive. I will wiggle it a little and pull on it until I work it out of the socket.

You can pull the rubber plug through the firewall so you can hold both sides at once.

I will have to give that a try if I have enough slack in the wires. Does it push from the engine compartment into the cab?

Take a test light and stick in each wire in the connector and see if it has voltage on the wires when you press the brakes. That will tell you if it's passing through it are not.
You want have to unplug anything either.
