Install Captainfab steering adapter on a 61

There is very little info on this for the 60-62 so I thought I would share my experience. First off,Captains parts were first rate. I had previously bought a kit from another popular vendor for a 61 and was less than impressed with it. Anyway, I used the forward lower hole that was already in the frame to start my install.

I took a measurement with an angle finder on my steering shaft and marked the inner fender with chalk for reference. I then installed the plate and the new steering box and oriented the box to line up with my reference marks. The forward bottom hole and aft top hole were used to tighten the box/plate to the frame for marking the holes. I used a scribe around the plate then took the steering box off and clamped the plate back to the frame. The holes were then marked by running a 7/16 drillbit through the holes on the outer plate. A quality 7/8 bi metal hole saw(lennox) was then utilized to create the holes for the spacers that are included in the kit. I started drilling the outside frame first and went completely through the front upper hole. With some patience, care and a whole lot of wd-40 you can go all the way through the bracing to the other side.

The lower aft hole had to be marked on the inside of the frame as well. The upper aft hole cleared the frame on my application so all I had to do on that one was grind a flat edge onto the spacer so it would lay on the frame.

Here’s a few pics of the install i did on the wifes 61 last summer using the captains brackets. Fairly straight forward install . You might want to have a few holes saws on hand i know i burned up a couple. I also ended up using a universal joint on steering column shaft as the box had quite abit of misalignment
