Re: fuel pump and tank

Why modify your tank? Just use an inline high pressure fuel pump mounted inside the frame rail with an inline fuel filter... then you're all set with minimal fuss.

I got one walbro 225 I think when I first started this swap, had to drop tank to put in return line, thought now would be good time for in tank pump.i don't no this is my first swap, trying to do the best first time around and hopefully not have to worry about it

nothing wrong with a intank or inline pump...both do the same job...if you've already got a walbro and vett filter/reg I'd just go with that..I've been running one in mine for years with no issues....

Well, in your post you said best, not cheap, so that is why I went there :chevy:

I would do an in tank pump any day over an inline pump if I had an option.

Re: fuel pump and tank

I would go in tank too, from a reliability stand point, and the fact that your tank isn't baffeled at all. When the tank gets low, that electric fuel pump pushing the fuel to the engine at 58 psi, is going to starve for fuel during acceleration and cornering. On a carb'd engine you don't notice it because the fuel bowls hold enough fuel for the pump to catch up, but on an EFI engine, the stumble will be instantaneous. With a tank like you have, I would use a factory sender/fuel bucket type pump, that way you always have fuel at the pump. You can either buy something like a Vettworks adapter or make one since they're not very complex, then get a pump from a truck that matches the depth of your tank, Tahoe's are shorter than Silverados. http://www.vetteworksonline.net/cata...qln9hmmunf50v5

This is the last one I did, it's on a 59 Chevy, but same idea. You probably wouldn't need to recess the tank on a truck like I had to do. https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...r-wagon-5.html Tank mods start at about post 94.

I use this in my truck. It uses a 5th gen camaro fuel pump module.

and I'm assuming your tank is not baffled, use these too.

No problem Novafrog. Just so you know Vaporworx has an aluminum ring you can weld to your tank. A little pricer, but the pump setup you will use no longer needs an external regulator. You'll only run a feed line to the engine. The regulator is housed in the fuel pump module.

just talked to carl, his set up seems to a lot simpler, how would you block off return line, thanks for info

You're using a 5th gen Camaro pump, right? Because the earlier modules all have returns on them.

I personally do not care for the whole blocking off the return line thing, to me its a car fire waiting to happen. I would get a pump with a return and run it like factory since your engine is set up for a return. High pressure fuel systems really aren't the place to cut corners to make things appear easier....

This is another reason I dont like blocking the return line. I'm pretty sure he's talking about the line on the rail, and a little miscommunication going on here. If someone tried to use these on the rail, it would only be a matter of when, not if there will be a fire.

yes both guys have 5th gen pump, both said by my tank being just 8 1/2 in tall that 5th gen pumps was all I could use,4th gen was to long even if cut ,shortest it could be is 10in,if I did't have 500.00+ in my tank I would buy a tank, don't have money for that everything else fells, inline pump
