Royal Purple
I have a new engine and new turbo 400. Is Royal Purple worth $15.00 a quart? At $15 x 12 quarts=$180.

Re: Royal Purple
Royal Purple is definitely a very fine motor oil, but I wouldn't use synthetic oil to break in an engine.

Re: Royal Purple
If your engine has a flat tappet cam I suggest that you use Brad Penn break in oil 30w and after break in, Brad Penn Grade 1 10-40 or 20-50. Available through Summit.

Regular dexron III in trans and Brad Penn in engine for break in...then what ever oil you want to use...NOT RP! I'm from Iowa! BTW! |
Re: Royal Purple
Any of the new transmission fluids are synthetic base

Re: Royal Purple
There is no need for special oil in the trans. for break-in. Whatever quality of fluid you feel is necessary for the long-term is good from the start.
Brad Penn and Amsoil, among others, make high-zinc break-in oil. After the first 500 mi. (which should mean the rings have mostly seated and the cam is completely broken in) I'd run a 1,000 mi. change of a good high-zinc conventional (probably something rated SM) or use a zinc additive but *not both*. |
