Royal Purple

I have a new engine and new turbo 400. Is Royal Purple worth $15.00 a quart? At $15 x 12 quarts=$180.

Re: Royal Purple

Royal Purple is definitely a very fine motor oil, but I wouldn't use synthetic oil to break in an engine.

If your engine has a flat tappet cam I suggest that you use Brad Penn break in oil 30w and after break in, Brad Penn Grade 1 10-40 or 20-50. Available through Summit.

No, No, NO!

Regular dexron III in trans and Brad Penn in engine for break in...then what ever oil you want to use...NOT RP!

I'm from Iowa! BTW!

Any of the new transmission fluids are synthetic base

There is no need for special oil in the trans. for break-in. Whatever quality of fluid you feel is necessary for the long-term is good from the start.

Brad Penn and Amsoil, among others, make high-zinc break-in oil. After the first 500 mi. (which should mean the rings have mostly seated and the cam is completely broken in) I'd run a 1,000 mi. change of a good high-zinc conventional (probably something rated SM) or use a zinc additive but *not both*.
