“Special paint” blue?

I have a 69 GMC that I’m going to do some rust repair mostly in the rocker area and wondered if anyone else has come across a similar blue with the special paint on the SPID?

Thanks, Wade

Re: “Special paint” blue?

My GMC C3500 has special paint listed on the SPID, but it is gray. It looks about like the colt of gray primer.

I think to match your repairs, your best bet would be to take your truck (or a panel) to an Automtive paint shop and have them shoot it. Even if you had the original paint code, it probably wouldn’t match because of fading.

P.S. - I love that truck! Are you putting the trim back on it?

Thank you. Yes I plan on putting all the emblems and trim back on after I either buff it or clear it. Good idea on taking it to a paint shop to try and match.

I'm guessing it was a USN or USAF service truck. But they are usually pretty sparse with lotsa oddball things on the SPID... Z62 not a common military option... :) So, who knows!

You might be right on the military thing, although like you said, they are usually very stripped. That said, it appears to be the same color of this truck is a military issue.

The bumpers were body color on this one.
This truck had special paint on the SPID also.

This was the only GMC USAF truck I could find... but the paint IS pretty close!
What's the other side of the SPID look like?

Man, I wonder if the AF logo is what was sanded off this truck? The shape kinda seems right.

I’ll take a picture of the other side tomorrow and post it. Interesting about the military aspect, but it has quite a few options. I have some old receipts that were in the glove box when it was owned by a Lieutenant Colonel. I bought it from the Austin Texas area and I think it spent some time around San Antonio also.

So much for that theory - definitely not military as a custom camper with chrome hubcaps..

Wow, that’s very interesting. It’s always like a treasure hunt when you start finding different things in these old trucks. Thank you for the link to the article.
