neutral safety switch
 

After I modified my steering column I am left with no reverse light and neutral safety switch on the column. Did some research and it looks like a transmission mounted switch may work from a 2001 chey 460e trans. i have a 460e trans from a Camaro but it didn't have this switch, has anyone used one of these switches to solve this problem. You will need to swap out the Manual Shift Shaft for a truck one to run a factory NSS.

Long "truck" shift shaft on the bottom, Short style on top which is what F-body 4L60E's used.

Never mind the part number.....I was going the other way putting in a short shaft. You need GM# 24235194.

just watched a utube video on how to do this. Thank you . this is a great help on solving my problem.
One more question. do you know any one that sells these pigtails or know what wires I need to hook up to make reverse lights and netural/park only work to start? Thanks again

is this switch also do reverse lights i wonder what pigtail does these functions i wont be using all these wires. two for reverse lights and two for park and netrual

The switch feeds into the computer which then pulls in the appropriate relay to run the circuit function...

Find yourself a wiring diagram and follow the colors to the pin outs....

Word of Warning

These plugs are secured into the switch with some kind of Super Glue/Gorilla Snot like substance from the factory. In order to remove it or plug it back in, you have to heat it with a heat gun or hair dryer for a minute or so. The glue loosens enough to remove without damaging the plug. (ask me how i know) Do the same to plug back in. I guess it keeps it water tight, but it's a pain in the @$$

I have attached some wiring I found on the internet. Worked well with my 2004 Tahoe donor trans. I used for Neutral Switch/Ign kill as my column didn't have it. It does do reverse lights too but didn't use it for that.

If I had time, I would like wire up something to the door locks that would lock the doors in drive and open in park. Maybe when I retire and have more time on my hands. (yeah right)

Trust me, I "retired" three years ago and now have so much to do I want to go get a job so I can have weekends off....haha...

looks like everything I need is in the 7 pin. Ground , ign power. Park Neutral and reverse. Perfect. Thanks for the diagram great big help

IMPORTANT if you wire this nss make sure to use a relay and only use the park wire to trigger the relay to carry the power for the starter. If u run start right though nss it will smoke it

Yes....and ensure the power feed for the downstream includes a fuse....

thinking of buying relays with a fuse attached to the relay so all in one assembly

for the reverse lights no you dont need a relay the blubs do not draw enough current the starter solionoid pulles like15 amps or so where as 2 1156 blubs are like 2.1amps each so like 4.2 amps is fine ive been running my this way for about 6 months so far no problems

One option to consider when in this position is a floor shifter with built in reverse and NSS switches. I used an Art Carr Winters shifter. No relays required.
