1951 Buick Super/1963 IH 4x4

I bought this 1951 Buick Super Riviera a while ago hoping to get the straight 8 running and drive it as it was. https://i.imgur.com/nm0p7a7.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/GGWemWa.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/Yr350YK.jpeg That didn't really work out for me. I had to use a post pounder to remove the pistons, and I don't have the money to get the engine rebuilt, so I let it set for a while. I decided I wanted to hot rod it and put in a V8, but I needed to redo the rear suspension. I read on forums that you can use Chevy truck trailing arms in the rear and that works well. So I bought a 1969 C20 off craigslist with the intent to steal it's parts and sell the rest. Here's how that turned out... https://i.imgur.com/ZVnrec6.jpg?1 I let the Buick sit while I got my truck running. Then this summer, I was browsing Facebook Marketplace, as one does, and I saw an International Harvester 4x4 truck frame, with engine and trans, for only 75$. https://i.imgur.com/UpNaOHF.jpg?1 Now my friend has a 1970 Cutlass on a Dodge truck frame, and i began to connect the dots. https://i.imgur.com/ff4CDB7.jpg?1 So we took the Buick to his place, tore the body off the frame, and wheeled the new one underneath. https://i.imgur.com/9boI7CR.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/mdHpxWT.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/k1FQaBj.jpeg After that it got hauled back to my shop. The 304 it came with turned over, but needed a lot of work and was missing many parts. So I took my truck and went and bought a running one off a guy locally https://i.imgur.com/nNAYJyD.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/IXF7Mn9.jpeg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzsxCAl-qTs And yesterday I got it installed into the Buick. https://i.imgur.com/jyrCWDA.jpg |

Re: 1951 Buick Super/1963 IH 4x4
I've been making progress slowly
I shortened the original steering column and bolted that in it's got the end off of a 67-72 truck column on it I welded a ujoint onto the mount for the steering box need to work on another ujoint and carrier bearing and then steering should be good to go after that I'll work on the clutch setup https://content.invisioncic.com/r277...bd224637a3.jpg https://content.invisioncic.com/r277...b1c1d2d3bf.jpg https://content.invisioncic.com/r277...35e781823e.jpg https://i.imgur.com/kK6bJ1m.jpg?1 |

Different is good. I think you are going to have the only one.

That build has certainly helped inspire mine! http://www.willitwasteland.com/?p=1499
I post updates more often on the AACA Buick forums, now that I don't have a 67-72 truck(right now) Here's the most recent picture of the build. I'm busy with college and other cars so this is on the backburner for now but I'm looking forward to getting it driving eventually! Most notable changes are the custom bumper/grille I built! https://content.invisioncic.com/r277...cc38133fd7.jpg |
