Park brake cable fraying at handle
 

Picking up my truck today, so starting to think of what the next fix-it will be. Used it a lot last fall when I was moving (twice), and noticed that the park brake was loosening up. On closer inspection, the reason it wasn't grabbing as hard was that the cable was fraying right where it connects to the handle. Breaking one strand at a time.

Can I fix that? Shorten cable and re-clamp? Or, does that front cable just need to be replaced?

I'll try and take a pic later today if there is enough light when I get the truck home.

Same thing happened to my cable. I replaced just the front section. The aftermarket cable from Rockauto (it was around $11) works fine, but the piece where it attaches to the handle is not the greatest. I had to shave off a tiny bit of the cable swedge end piece thingy and spread the attachment piece apart enough to work. For the price point, it works well

I used the Raybestos one, but looks like the have the same number sequence at the end of the part number, so I'm gonna say yes

I'm glad I could help!

My original cable had one strand that was broken. Used it every time I parked it like that for at least a year after I first noticed it was coming apart. Finally, one last pull and the cable gave out :lol: It was a bit of a shock when that happened. Thankfully, the cable released enough to where the shoes weren't stuck on the drums
