Brakes dragging 1963 C20

Want to make sure this is correct, driver side front brakes.
After hitting the pedal, the drum drags on the brakes as if the whole assembly is rotating. When spinning the wheel in reverse it loosens up.

Looks like what I have matches the manual, unless I have the wrong shoe leading.
Any suggestions?

I’m thinking the whole shoe assembly pivots when the brakes are applied, and since the shoes are worn there is more room to pivot and the shoes get ‘stuck’ in the drum. Can’t really see what else could be going on.

Going to get new shoes in there and see if it makes a difference.

It looks like the adjustment is pretty far out based on the exposed thread @ the star-wheel indicating the shoes are worn (it's hard to tell from the posted images). I would try the new shoes & have the drums checked for out of roundness.

Shoes are new, just got these last week. It’s probably the drum.

Ahh.... It's difficult to tell from the pic. I would have the drums inspected & run-out measured.

Don’t really want to put any more money into this setup; the 74 C20 cross member is going in soon.
Was just trying to get it to work for a few more weeks.

These are new brake shoes and it seems the lining is rather thin.

I would agree based on that image.

One thing I do not recall, is which brake adjuster is on which side. I believe the right hand thread adjuster goes on the driver side. I wonder if I have it switched.

Not sure if this would matter though, since these are not automatic adjusters. The spring holds the adjuster in place and it must be manually adjusted.

I checked and they were correct.

Since the leading shoe was so thin, I thought, why not use the extra set and have two trailing shoes. Both sets are new, so I took the thicker trailing shoe and placed it in place of the leading shoe. So far, the brakes are not dragging or sticking. Hopefully this will just buy me some driving time until I get the new cross member in place.
