'53 rain deflectors
So...do I install 'rain deflectors' on my '53 doors or not? I have them but built my truck without them. Looking at photos, some do, some don't.

You could do it for the “look” or for function . Either way it would set your truck off from the rest of the pack .

Re: '53 rain deflectors
I have them on my truck - factory originals, never took them off. Whether or not you keep them depends on a couple of things: 1) Do you want the original look or a more streetrod look? 2) Are you going to actually drive your truck in the rain with your windows open? I like mine; much like the hood center strip, door handles, and other exterior appurtenances, they're part of the old-school charm.

Re: '53 rain deflectors
The little ones over the vent wing I say yes. The big chrome ones that cover the whole window, only if you are shooting for the low rider bomb look and have all the other trinkets that go with that look.
The key to adding any part is simply the concept of "does this part work as a viable component of the whole build and contribute to the or does it look stuck on and out of place". |

I found three rigs with the visors over the windows and one was too artsy a shot to show.
Note both the burb and the truck have all the proper low rider bomb equipment and I don't think the truck missed one on the list. Still the rain deflectors blend in with the rest of the build. They don't have that "hey look at me first" vibe to them on either truck and you don't see them first unless you are actually hunting for them. Stick them on someone's solid color AD with 18 inch billets on it and they would look like a stuck on afterthought. |
