Front cross member

2 Attachment(s)
I bought a front cross member to convert my 65 SBW to power disc brakes. I can not identify what it came out of. everything looks like a mid 80s cross member except the motor mount perch's. there are free standing. A little help would be appreciated.

Re: Front cross member

Im guessing those motor mounts were put there by a previous owner. Those nuts look newer and there appears to be unused factory mount holes. I don't really know my 80's trucks too well though.

I wonder if this one is out of a diesel square? I'm not sure what the difference is between the Oldsmobile diesel engine mounts vs. the regular sbc mounts. I don't believe they are big block mounts because those went to the top of the frame in the trucks

70-80's with maybe inline 6 mounts?

Definitely a 73-87 x-member or @ least 73-87 arms.

I've never seen a 'floating' motor-mount stanchion/tower on these trucks (C10's). All of the trucks I've seen throughout my years were anchored @ the top of the rail as well as @ the x-member (I started paying attention to this stuff in the early 80's through present). I'm betting that was driveway-built.

They don't look original to that cross member.

You do know you don't need the whole cross member to do disc brakes. You can just use the spindles with your original control arms. Unless you want to upgrade front suspension to later version.

Re: Front cross member

They are original mounts. After looking further the measurement across the frame is almost 6 inches wider than a interchangeable crossmember ( 73-87). I am guessing a van or commercial truck. The thing that is odd is that it has 5on5 wheels. Weird

HD commercial set-ups would not have the C10 rubber bushings. They would have the earlier rubber-lined steel sleeve set-up.

My money is on "van" they are indeed wider both front and rear.

What did the crossmember set you back? I am looking for the parts to swap my 72 Blazer to 2wd. If you do not need it would you be selling it?

Sorry but i returned it to the Salvage yard and exchanged it for the proper size crossmember. I paid 250 for everything including the P/S gear.
