Hello everyone,

I picked up this 1960 Apache in Minnesota two years ago and it was transported there from North Dakota or Montana I believe. I am in michigan.

I got distracted on another project and life but now I've been working on it. I have tons of questions and have done some searching here but haven't found everything, but I admit I also can't find my keys I just sat down on the counter either.

So I appreciate any and all help and patience.

I currently have a built 350 with a turbo 400 installed. I need a complete interior, brakes, truck bed replacement.

*Let me start with these questions. And if you can direct me to a thread about it or answer direct I would appreciate it.

1. Brakes - I currently have drum brakes all around I would love to have disc up front so that leads to two questions, has anyone found an easy front axle swap or way to convert to disc brakes? If it's a front axle swap is there a thread on it and what / make donor vehicle did it come from?

2. And what have you found is a good master cylinder to use?

3. What year / make donor front seat have you found? I would like to keep a bench seat. Although I may end up with a floor shifter unless I can find how to get the auto shift up on the steering column.

(I still have the 1995 Chevy Tahoe 4x4 donor vehicle the engine came out of if that's of any help)

Thank you - Leinhit

Welcome to the Forum.

Here is a Great link on the front end/Disc brake question you have.

Link: https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...isc+brake+swap

You mentioned a bed replacement, Those spare tire fenders and spare tire holders are getting harder to find.

So, If you are going to a Fleet side bed, those parts have some value to them.

Here's a few threads on seats.

Thanks for the quick reply I appreciate it.

I will start doing some reading.

*Although honestly I would love to meet someone close enough to take a look at my project in person.. I tend to learn better that way.

I should have clarified I don't mean to replace the entire bed, the box is in great shape it was the wood floor that was rotted out that I will be replacing.

I do wonder if someone before me put a different box on it since it's a bit different color.

I do know the original color was that ocean teal/whatever they called it that I painted my engine bay. But the bed on my truck looks more blue than that. I understand a previous owner primered it and then painted it black and most of that came off over the years leaving what you see in the picture. Which I like that look

Re: New member, new '60 apache project questions

Thanks for the links, Neptune green was the name I was trying to think of. I did my engine bay with that. And that was the original color of my truck.

Of course I used a base/clearco and it's very shiny in the engine bay which is what I wanted.

I am looking to do the interior soon and I read correctly the dash is a charcoal black and there is a silver metallic for the rest of the interior.

I appreciate the help. I read the earlier link about disc brake swaps and if I read correctly it looks like I can use the front and of up to a 1987 Chevy.

I'm not interested in taking the engine back out but it sounds like there's a way to do it without doing all that.

*. Until such day I can do such a disc brake swap what master cylinder could I use with the current drum brake setup? Preferably some kind of vacuum assist master cylinder.
