Mystery Headlight Clips

1 Attachment(s)
I am replacing the headlights on my 83 C20 Silverado with quad headlights. There are 4 ciips attached to each headlight retainer screw (16 total) and they are very rusty. Does anyone know the purpose of these clips? I don't see them on other 83 Silverados.

Looks like the person used dash pad clips, bent drilled them. But I could be wrong.

No, they are not dash pad clips - much smaller. They are about 5/16" wide and about 1.5" long. They appear to serve no purpose, other than to create rust spots in the area. At first I thought they had something to do with the headlight retainer bracket, but the brackets have their own screw holes to secure them to the headlight buckets. Maybe they are for some sort of covering that snaps on over the headlights, but I don't know why anyone would need that. They have been on the truck since I bought it in 2002.

Or, maybe clips to hold on a full width bug screen with cutouts for the headlights and clips to hold the frame in place?

These were for a wire type rock guard. The guards came in chrome or black

had a set of them on my old K5...there pretty much useless. whenever something hit them, the guards would get smacked into your headlights, them clips were pretty janky and would allow the wire to pop out and hit your lights.
little hard to see them

if you look close you can see the cross hatch on the lights

Thanks for the information. I can see how they could be a problem. I would think a full cattle guard on the front would be a better idea.

I use them on my Cibie Z Beams and Hella H4s. 35+ years and no problems.
