I never knew there was supposed to be a grommet in there. Interesting.

This is a first , and I've taken apart some very low mile trucks. That grommet goes on the INNER fender bottom rear , not the bottom of a fender .

Will need those, cause I don't have any grommets there either...

I saw some that had a large washer and bolt that went with it, can't find it now, of course.

Well fellas, I can't say what's right here... there was a grommet on one fender and not on the other when I removed them... Based on the fairly large hole in the "fender mounting plate" it kinda made sense that something might be used to locate the lower fender bolt and cushion the fender from being metal to metal. Guy from Truck Shop said to use a 1955-59 chevy truck set that goes to the inner fender. PN 55-06501. http://www.truckandcarshop.com/trucks47_59/t47_056.html
They look pretty much like the inner fender to cab grommets linked above. Maybe we are talking past each other on the location, inner vs outer.

Appreciate the insight on what you've seen on other trucks!

Upon further inspection, the grommet that's there appears to be split to fit in there, did find the other one, it had fallen out and was in the 'bag and tag' box.

Here's photo of the hole, so from the factory, there was nothing used in here? I get you need some wiggle room for fender alignment, but this is a big hole. The aftermarket one I used the picture was from Truck Shop, that hole looks smaller than mine... hmmm. Oh well, I got what I got, so I'll put something similar back in there...

Good Morning. Here are pictures of an original paint fender and mounting plate that have not been disassembled. Hard to determine if the mounting plate has a grommet.

Looks like no grommet, but a spacer for alignment.

I agree. Hard to determine. Here is the sheet from the assembly manual. It references grommet for panel or suburban.

Thanks all for the input! f66's assembly manual pic shows the panel/suburban have a grommet! I don't know why the Suburban/Panel would be any different than the truck fender??? But mine is a Burb... The grommet on it was ripped and can't really tell if it was original. Pics from the manual show PN 3723272, little bit out there on GMPartswiki: http://www.gmpartswiki.com/getpage?pageid=219326 superseded by PN 3765905... one wiki reference says it's rubber - 1 3/4" x 3/8" thk.

I ordered the 55-59 grommets from Truck shop, per their recommendation. Will see if it fits.
Thanks again!

Roy

I got the grommets yesterday. They measure about 1 5/8" diameter with a 1/2" diameter hole. It's slit almost to the hole, so should be able to slide in the fender bracket hole. I'd try it on the truck, but I've temporarily mounted the fenders while I drive it a bit. Does look alot like the grommet that was on there. I'll post back when I install these.

Thanks to the guy at Truck shop, I heard he had a 64 C10.

Roy, Looks good. One question I have is are there two different brackets? One with a large hole for the grommet, and another bracket with a smaller hole no grommet. Looking at pictures from the link posted earlier looks like the hole where your grommet goes is smaller. Just curious. That aside, happy you have a fix. Frank

Frank,
Was wondering the same thing, the graphic you posted does show 2 different part #s. GMwiki found 3757735 and 3757736 (L&R for Cab/Cowl) but not 3757739 or 3757740 (Panel/Suburban).

Update: Installed these 55-59 grommets last night. Once you fold them over to squeeze them in the fender bracket hole, they move around a good bit. Probably could squeeze them into a smaller hole. Hope I'm done taking these fenders on and off.. lol
