I have never heard of anything like that. I have changed hundreds of gears and replaced the bearings on a good percentage of them. I really don't see what could be different about the bearings, or why the ratio would matter.

The only caution I would give is to use a synthetic gear oil and be careful about the break-in of the gear-set.
