if you got a motor in the truck and got time just dont rush it and find a good deal and have it rebuilt with some good light Balanced internals. along with you cam intake and Carb, "the toilet bowl isnt nessicary".
i think you will be completely satisfied with results.
Big blocks are about 40% more expensive for all parts across the board. compared to sbc's

Thats what i did. I bought a 1981 gmc 2500 with the original running 454 for 900 bucks. Pulled the motor/trans/carb/kickdown switch and sold the truck for 200 bucks. ahaha. Carb was damn near perfect. Had that rebuilt... I want my truck runnin so bad. I have wanted a 454 since i was 16 years old.. 17 years later and i have one.. just cant start it. ahaha.
